reversing tires?

I installed the 6 inch Unverferth wheel spacers on each side of my rears for a foot of width and feel much more secure on slopes. My tiltmetre shows me at 25 degrees sometimes but not nearly as high a "pucker-factor" now. Mind you, I am right down in "creeper-gear" with seat belt cinched up tight and have carefully pre-planned any necessary counter-action if necessary. (which is something I do even driving my truck on the highway so there are less surprises).

My dealer told me that i couldn't change them around to gain width, and a couple months ago I ask on here and was told yes it would help.

I switched them around and only gained 1 1/8 inch....It wasn't much but it will help when using chains, and it keeps the mud from sticking to side of the fender.

I heard some say they switched the fronts, but i did a search & found where a member had a front wheel fall off from doing that.

not all thractors are meant to have dished fronts.. .. you see many 4wd's that don't reccomend it.. etc.

The main reason for the adjustable wheel track on ag tractors is for cultivation, spraying and similar row-crop operations where you want to center the tires to minimize crop damage (this does not come into play with any of the operations listed above). Besides that, a wider width will obviously increase stability but will limit places where the tractor can go (between trees, barn doors, on trailers, thru gates, etc.). I generally prefer the narrowest width that will give me adequate stability. Since there are not any hills on my place, I usually go close to the narrowest setting. The exception being tricycle tractors which are inherently much less stable (and no longer made for this reason), so I move the rears on those out to the wider positions.

I have a 1715 NH & I switched both front and rears when I got it "no FEL" . My front tires track with the outside of the rears. On these WV hill sides you need all you can get. MY dealer told me would ruin bearings in front to set out. If it had FEL I would not recomend doing so.
