I've been getting Cox cable internet for about 30 years and they have been raising prices every year. Usually about $5 more a month each year but this year I just got a $66 increase. That's about a 60% increase. I need high speed internet for my home business and this one is called a 1000mb download which averages about 600mb. It's supposed to be a whole house wifi but not without buying pods to relay it a longer distance and the wifi is very unreliable.

I have no choice as there is no other high speed internet available in my area so they have me by the ba!!s. Now my internet bill is higher each year than my electric bill and this is uncalled for. Since high speed internet is a monopoly here it should be better controlled but I have no faith in the gov't controlling anything. Have your internet bills gone up like this?

I thought my provider was high. It's $90.00 a month for the same thing your getting.

Interesting TV coverage recently about our current inflation situation. Premise was, some inflation is due to price gouging rather than normal economic ebbs and flows. Evidence presented were announcements excerpted from corporate annual meetings with their shareholders, gloating about profits from "Pricing Power". "Pricing Power" was described by the report as, something to the effect, "because we can, not because we need to."

If you have decent cell service thru Verizon or T-Mobile, look into their whole house wifi routers. Mainly for rural areas.
I pay $50/month to Verizon for 40-60 Mbps and there's no limit of use, nor do they throttle it back.

Call Cox (or whoever your carrier is)... Ask for a "Customer Retention Specialist" (don't listen to the crap that comes out of the persons mouth on the phone)... This is not an easy process but keep at it until you get someone that will "apply a discount code"... for your services. Plan to spend some time on the phone... be nice... & you will most likely get a decent discount on your services... (but it is still over priced.. but better than where you where)... We do this all the time for our clients...

Any Point to Point providers in the area?

You very likely have no need for a 1Gbit service. Can you step down?

WiFi ‘reliability’ is just a function of the router/access points. You can abandon the ISP hardware and just install your own for the home WiFi portion.

Thanks, I am planning on doing that, again.

As I said, my 1Gbit usually averages about 600mb and I could cut down to 500mb which would probably give me about 300mb but the 500mb is only $10 less and not worth doing it. I had 100mb for a while and it was too slow for my business so I can't use the providers that only give 50-100mb service.
