Spring is finally coming to the Northland and I am in the market for a used RFM for my JD3520. I've narrowed it down to a Landpride FDR2572 for $1500 and a FDR2584 for $1400. I know I want a minimum of 72 to cover wheel tracks but my questions for those who have been there and done is whether I'd find the 84 as too much mower. Yard is fairly open approx 3.5 acres to cut and I have the JD140 for around trees and house.

My opinion is go for the 84".
I run an 84" rear discharge RFM on a 35 HP tractor no problem at all.

If your ground is really flat I wouldnt hesitate going with the larger mower, but if it is rough and hilly I would stay with the smaller one becuase you will be scalping the lawn.

I have had both a 72" rhino and 84" Landpride behind my JD3720. IF your ground is not too rolling/hilly, go with the 84". You have plenty of power. I was once mowing in heavy grass with the 84". Noticed smoke rolling by the cab window. Mower got plugged and the belt was smoking. Didn't phase the tractor at all. Your 3520 has plenty of power. A 100" mower would also be fine for mowing IMHO. I have a 90" mower on my Toolcat and works great.

Go for the big one.

I am running a woods 72" behind my 3520 for 3 acres. The tire tracks only end up being about 6 to 10 inches apart on each pass. The 84" should get you 12 to 18 inches apart on passes. I have a 60" bushog that the tracks run together on passes so I knew I wanted wider for a finish mower. But the 72" only gave me 6 inches on each side. The 84" would be the way to go if your land is fairly flat.

I want to know where you are getting those mowers for that price. If those are new prices thats a smoking deal.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. I assumed that they were used.
