I got these drains off of amazon. They allow full port drainage under pressure. Really empties crap on bottom of WH tank

The cap is important especially in a rental...

I had a tenant's child open a valve just enough to do lots of damage...

Since then I cap and document plus any unused washing machine hookups.

The newer Rheem hot water heaters don’t have a handle on the faucet to open the drain, they have a slot for using a flat blade screwdriver to open and close it.

My Moms six years and five months old Rheem hot water heater quit working so I went over there to check it out, huge puddle of water on basement concrete floor , the warranty is only six years so she had to pay to get a new heater installed.

It does seem to be a recurring theme… get through the warranty period.

Earlier this summer i had to replace both of my rudd (made by rheem) power vent units with newer rheem power vent units. They are way more expensive now than i ever remember seeing for a water heater. And hard to find in propane version. I had to order and have them shipped to me. Took 3 weeks to get.
Yeah, I think Rheem is the only company that makes a propane power vent water heater. Went thru the same thing you did a couple years ago when I replaced mine. Think I got mine thru Lowes. Local plumbing supply place could get me one, but wanted ~$200 more for the same unit. Even so, think I paid close to $1k for it.

I dunno...mine has a plastic handle on the drain, and it's only a couple years old. I've seen those screwdriver slot ones before, I think my old HW heater had one.

I replaced our 30 year old electric water heater with a Rheem heat pump water heater this spring. The old heater was still working fine but I discovered that my electric co-op had a rebate for new heat pump water heater replacements. They paid for about half of it. I use about $8 electricity/month with this water heater.
That sounds like a fantastic upgrade! It’s impressive that your electric co-op offers such substantial rebates. What a way to save! I'm also going to replace our 7-year-old water heater, it is just time. I'll definitely look into Rheem. Also, I got some info about the Bkv Energy efficient home solutions, so I'll check the details too. I hope all this will help lead to long-term savings.
