Yea, but the fist pic is from my cell phone and the second is from my cannon 50D. Funny how a $1500 camera will give a much better picture. The color in the second pic is much more accurate.

Yea, I feel better about it. Not sure why I himmed and hawed about it. Should have just done it in the first place. Now I'm just waiting for the new decals to come in.

With everything I'm doing on the tractor, I'm thinking about just starting a new thread for a partial rebuild. If I do, I'll post a link.

Got the decals and got them installed today. I think they came out pretty good.

I picked up the last pieces for it today. Unfortunately, I started working on the used mower I bought and while backing up to hook it up, I backed over one of the battery doors. Oops! Didn't damage it too bad, but it did break part of the fiberglass. I should get to trying to reinstall them next week. I'll post pix after I do.

Update:

In the middle of January, I shipped my nonworking tach to a company in Virginia called Southern Electronics (http://southernelectronics.com/). I heard from them today that they were able to repair the tach. Total price including shipping $175. Much better than the JD replacement price of $1200. I'll post how it works once I receive and reinstall it.

I've worked some on the battery compartment, but am having difficulty lining everything up properly. Now I remember why I hated body work. I need to take the hood back off and tweek on it some. I'll post pix from time to time, but knowing myself, it won't be in any rush.

Southern Electronics repairs instrument clusters for nearly all makes of cars from 1955 on. I figured a tach for a tractor couldn't be that different. So I called them up to see what they thought. They said they didn't know without looking at it. Since they would pay the shipping, I figured "What the hay" and gave it a shot. No complaints so far, but I haven't received it back yet. Don't expect to have any complaints then either, but you never know.

I wanted to post about this as I've read about others who have had tach issues and found the replacement price to be excessive. If it works like I expect, I'll start a short thread about it. Either way I'll post my findings here.

I have A JD 5520 and had a fogging issue with the instrument cluster that was replaced under warranty. It was free but the parts guy said "you wouldn't wabt to know the price." I didn't ask but am glad to know tach and instument clusters cost that much.
JD is great but it seems the time is ripe for a competing company that has a lower cost basis to gain greater dominance. Maybe Kubota.
The tach cluster prob comes from Mexico and can't cost more than $30.

$455 USD for yours. That's about the price I've heard for others with newer tractors. I think mine is higher due to supply and demand. Not many left in stock.

You know, just because not much else can go wrong, I'd disconnect the battery cable during the installation---just in case.

Yea !!!!!!!!!! It even works. The hour meter works too now.

$175 complete...including shipping both directions.
