Oh, yeah!! We love the metal roof. It's old, not as old as the house, but old. The original roof was cedar, and the metal is a lot cheaper to replace, so we'll stick with the metal. If you look at the picture of the side of the house where the sills were replaced, you can see the new metal roofing on the ground that will go up on the new extension.

Yay! Good man! If you have any questions or problems with it, let me know. Fred has been installing metal roofing for twenty some years.

Re: Rich\'s House AKA Wampecack Creek Farm

We neded a lot of cement for the footings and frost walls of the new extension, but it had to be done in a few pours. We needed less than the minimum amount of cement that you had to order, so we decided to make the slab for an extension to our equipment barn, with the left over cement,so we could store our bigger tractor, manure spreader, hay baler and other equipment the won't fit in the exisiting eqipment barn. This is going to be the last part constructed, and only half the slab is in. The rest will be made of left over cement for the next time we need a pour.

Re: Rich\'s House AKA Wampecack Creek Farm

All right!!!! Fred installs metal roofing!! Great!!! I'll ask Tim if we have any issues with it. Tim has been doing this kind of construction for about 30 years, but it's real good to know that we have someone we can turn to if we have a problem!!!

Thanks!!!

By the way, all of our buildings have metal roofing, except our little hen house. And the extension to the equipment barn will have it, too. You can't beat metal roofing!!!

I knew you'd pick her up. Yep, she's part of our flock. They're all in good shape, nice feathers, and great egg producers. That one's a buff oprington. We also have Rhode Island reds, barred rocks, Black opringtons and white opringtons.

Looks like your addition is pretty much a straight run. Just some minor flashings involved. Are you screwing the metal down? Oh never mind I won't ask you a bunch of tedious questions, just know that we are here if you need us.

Re: Rich\'s House AKA Wampecack Creek Farm

Hi Rich...

What are you using for new sill plates?....pressure treated?......what size are the new plates? Did you have wood rot in the vertical posts that came in contact with the sill plates? If so, how was this corrected? What about the foundation that the old sill plates rested upon? Were they fieldstone or concrete footings? Were they in relatively good shape or did you have to pour new foundations along the perimeter of the house?

All this work, I too, did. I asked all these questions because I had severe rotting. Had to re-place all old sill plates with pressure treated 6"x6" sills. Also, we had to splice in new sections of posts where the old ones that came in contact with the horizontal sills rotted.

What are you going to do with that excavated bank where you were extracting gravel? When I passed by and noticed that, I thought what a perfect location for another bank barn similar to the one you have.

Great job you're doing. It's always an encouragement when I see homeowners in the Cambridge community trying to renovate and restore their old homes. Keep the pics coming. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Rich\'s House AKA Wampecack Creek Farm

Cindi, I figured you'd know construction, along with your other talents. Yep, we got special screws for the roofing that the manufacturer provides.

Go ahead and ask tedious questions, that's what's great about TBN, we all learn from each others experiences!

Thanks for being there, too!!! I need a lot of support for this project.!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
