Ridding property of stinging pests?

Thanks for all the replies so far. I would like to try the type of treatment recommended by ToddW. I will check at Lowes for the Bayer product Hudlow mentioned as that may be the best bet in NY.

As DaTeacha stated the paper wasps are not very aggressive, but as our season goes on they are extremely prolific and become a nuisance. Nests are numerous and in every building, deck, outbuilding etc. on the property.

First of all, the common paper wasp that builds the open nest that looks like an upside down hole filled gray mushroom is not terribly aggressive.

Say what??? Y'all must have a different kind of paper wasp up there than we do here in South Georgia.

If you have a problem with honey bees building hives in your house, just start using your cell phone more.

Anyhow, stinging insects are just part of the joy of country living. Sort of like skunks, snakes, and possums.

Has anyone tried a soapy solution from a small pump sprayer on those paper wasps. A solution of Joy and water. It is used very sucessfully on killer bee hives. Suffocates them. I have not personally tried this though.

Has anyone ever tried the 'glass bowl over the hole' for ground dwelling yellowjackets? I have numerous times and it works.

As far as the bald face hornets, they could hear my heart pounding in the dark as I approach the nest armed with at least ten cans of spray. I think this year I'm gonna get a paintball gun and obliterate the nest from faaaar away.

I have had fun over the years using a pellet rifle on these nests. A couple of shots from a couple of hundred feet away sure does upset them.

If you are really a good shot, you can work on the nest until it falls. They don't like that either.

m not sure what we have, some kind of lzy wasp or hornets. not bees though I know it is not bees. las year they made a nest in a molded picnic table, they went underneath the table top and down into the hollow plastic molded leg. What kind of stinging insect would you say that is?

I would like to try the waspinator but also waiting for some feedback from anyone who has actually tried it. it seems ot me that if they already ahve a nest built near my home they are not going to go away for long based on them seeing a fake nest. Seems to me that the scarecrow effect might work for a short time, but thenwhen they see no other wasps around they ignore it. Kind of like crows siting on the head of a scarecrow type of thing. Works initially but thent he critters figure it out.

That sounds like any wasp except maybe the red wasp which in my experience have nest maybe 12 inches accross. The only time I have any lazy wasp is early in the season when we have a cool spell, they can't do much when it is cold.
