Ridgid Pipe Wrench Warranty Problems

Some see it that way but even the people who work for the box store are fine with it since they have even suggested it. If anything it's shows that the retailer values their customers more than companies like Ridgid.

They should exchange it staight up instead of an employee telling you to go thru that. I would get that cleared by the store manager. To each his own.

Sounds like it's a metallurgical defect and since those jaws are tempered in a bunch, there were more of them produced. I'm sure by now they are aware of it and have replaced many. Send it to them and ask for a replacement.

Just though I'd update you'all that have been following this thread.

For starters, NO I did not send the wrench back to ridgid.

Since the last e-mail I sent them on december 12th, I have NOT heard back. Alls well though. I moved on, and got the HF wrench.

To my suprise however, I got the mail today and there was a package from them

Opened it up, and low-and-behold they sent me a new lower jaw and pin assembly:thumbsup:

Not sure what to think now? Maybe the right person seen the e-mails? Who knows.

But my faith in ridgid has somewhat been restored. I just hope I never have to go through this again.

My guess is that when they were confronted with the 'evidence' they felt it was easier to make /keep you happy and did what was right.
If your happy now Id send them a thank you note.

I have broken a few HF items (Pittsburgh Tools) that i received replacements for just like Sears Craftsman stuff. Usually ratchets are most common breakables. Just got back 2 ea 1/2" craftsman ratchets and both of them are early 90s models that have been replaced once or twice already and yet I have a mid early 80s one that has same as it was back then works great not yet broken...

I use the pipe over the ends for cheaters when needed...

I probabally would have sold it for that + shipping Without the lower jaw, it was only worth its weight as scrap aluminum to me. ~ 2lbs @ .60/lb = $1.20

So whats it called when the box stores put broken returns back on the shelf repeatedly until someone doesn't return the broken item? When you treat customers like that, its not surprising the customer wants to rip them off too.

You do know that is theft, right? The fact that they've gleaned some past profit from you is a red herring.
