Getting ready for my 250 hour service on my JD 4410. When I did my 50, I bought a 5 gallon drain pan for the hydro drain. It is 2.5 gallons too small and the switch when it got full was a little less than successful.

Has anyone found something between 5 gallon and the enormous 58-60 quart (15 gallons) units?

I use TWO of the "plastic" 5 gal size on my motorhome that holds a BUNCH! Use #1...and when it starts filling...slide #2 right on top of it and let it hold the rest.

Rectangular plastic storage bins from Wally World come in a bunch of sizes that will hold up to 30 gallons or so. Rubbermaid, etc. Just won't handle hot oil.

well being that i am a mechanic for a garbage hauling company, i can say that draining oil in large quanitys is a pretty daily thing for me. at work we have a big collection of drain containers, everything from aluminum cake pans to the ends of 55 gallon drums. probably the most used one is the end of a 55 gallon plastic drum that is cut off about 7 or 8 inches high, its short enough to fit under most stuff and holds a decent amount, the next most used one is, and your gona find this funny, a recycling bin, ya know the ones that people put out by the curb next to the trash can, with the drain holes plugged with bolts it make a great drain container, and its easy to handle since they have handles molded into each end. they will easily hold 15 gallons of oil thats as hot as can be. but of course thats probably a bit big for your use, and im not sure where the average folk could find a recycle bin, other than snagging your neighbors one on trash day /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but i think that the end of a 55 gallon plastic barrel should be perfect for you, just cut it to the height you want

Excellent suggestion, Mark, and I happen to have one laying around from a different failed experiment. It has just been waiting for another project, and here it is!
