I recently bought a Kubota BX2300 and I love it to death. Now I would like to get a Utility vehicle for just normal use around the yard, firewood, snow, dirt and other hauling. I would like to get the RTV900 but I really hate to pay another $10,000 for something else. So is there any other options that are alot cheaper, but that compare to the Kubota? And would it be good to consider used vs. new? I did look at some cheaper ones like the Compact John Deere Gator, but it just doesn't compare to the RTV. Any suggestions? Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

One word answer... NO. There are cheaper options, but you threw in "compare to Kubota" so that makes the answer an easy no. You also mention work around the yard, one thing to be aware of, yard means grass and a UV with a locked differential will tear up that grass every time you turn, the Kubota doesn't have a locked differential until you need it, just like your BX. There are other cheaper alternatives, but you won't get diesel engine, hydrostatic drive, or power steering, besides the color will match your tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I can come up with several more reasons if you need them. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

DooterDan,

Milkman is correct with out standing advise, you will not find another UV like the Kubota. My question to you is do you need all that. I looked at the Kubota and wanted one in the worst way, I just could not justify the $$ for one. I have a Yamaha Rhino and for the most part works our small horse farm everyday. They both have pro's and con's and the Yamaha is more of the fun type UV than a work type but it works. So my answer would buy the Kubota but knowing any of the UV's would work and do everything you ask it to do.

What is your budget?

I drove the Kubota and I liked it. The power steering was really nice. The hydostatic trans just about throws you out of the cab.

The Kawasaki Mule seems to be the cheapest solution. I ended up with a John Deer Gator HPX Gas (got a static display demo model). If I had to do it over, I would probably buy the diesel since the gas is so cold natured.

Another option is either the John Deere Buck or the Actic Cat TBX with the bed. They are both 4wd with a small bed on the back. I plow snow with mine, I have the arctic cat tbx. The bed works great for hauling things. You can also get a trailer to go behind them to haul wood, hay, etc.

Bush Hog is a good company, not meaning to cast aspersions. Their cutters are first rate as we all know, particularly the HD ones. They even ship (or at least used to) in their own fleet of trucks (Rubbermaid used to do that also). And they offer dealers a fairly unique wholesale discount structure that can save money for buyers as well if they are let in on it.

They do tend to copy/outsource when offering outside of their core product line. Case in point, one of their folks told me they bought an Alo/Quicke loader to "borrow" ideas from after it hit the mkt here around 2000. They picked a good one to use, I'll say.

In the case of their UV, I smell Club Car/Bobcat. The auto-locking diff, the general form factor and capacities, etc, all point to an outsourced product of that heritage, though I do not think their www site mentions a diesel engine offfering as is available with Bobcat.

Information is power when it comes to buying. Anybody who knows for sure on any of this, chime in; just my 2 or 3¢ worth FYI,

Jim

We have a JD Gator (gas) on our farm. We can not hardly get the darn thing to start half the time. I also think that it rides rough but it does get the job done.

So so glad I went with kubota, also you never have to fill it up very fuel efficient. inseeme
