Jinma 284
Have a leak on my Jinma 284 FEL rigid hydraulic line. The leak is at a joint where the rigid tube is fused to a "block". This "block" is what the FEL rubber lines are threaded to... hope that makes sense. My question is how is this joint joined? Welded? Brazed? I'm trying to weigh my repair/replace options.
Thanks, Brad

Without a picture, I have to assume this is a transition piece you are talking about. The hydraulic circuit(s) continues in the same path as the steel tubing lines into hoses. Correct? Some are welded and some are sil-brazed. Hard to tell without a picture, but usually welded joints will have a small radius bead around the steel tubing whereas a sil-brazed joint will not have the radius bead.

Thanks Bob. On closer inspection, mine appear to be brazed, so I'll attempt the repair myself. I wasn't sure last night as it was getting dark and some robot welds are pretty smooth these days (Not that a robot has ever touched a Jinma :)

I wouldn't attempt to re-braze with brass brazing rod if that's what you had in mind. If you are sure it's a brazed joint, here's some tips.

SILBRAZE

I use 56% silver braze another member was successful with a silver braze in the mid 40's. Use a good paste flux. I have used both white and black depending upon the diameter of the fitting.
