I forgot the .219 Zipper, owned a couple of them a few decades back and then there was the 22 Savage HiPower but it was actually .228 caliber.

My home gun is a Ruger Blackhawk in .38-40 which is actually .401. I have a 10mm Auto cylinder for that gun also.

I would have to disagree with part of that. Being hit by a 22 rimfire, especially a 22LR is not like being hit with a slingshot. A 22 rimfire can kill a groundhog dead just like a 22-250 can. You just have to have a better placed shot with the rimfire. :)

Let me dust off one of my bullet comparison pic's. I will list the relevant calibers. Starting at the left. 22 BB cap, 22 CB cap, 22 Short, 22 Long, 22 Long Rifle, .17HMR ballistic tip, .17HMR hollow point (both of these are also rimfire cartridges, (not relevant but it's next) 30 Carbine, 223 Rem (a 22 caliber bullet and used in AR15's, M16's) and at the end is a 50BMG.

As you can see there is quite some difference in the capacity of a cartridge as to how much powder it can hold. Larger powder capacity, more power, higher velocity and kinetic energy. Also with the larger capacity cartridge cases you will usually find that the bullet weight increases.

Yes this is true but...
Which one would you rather be shooting for 300yd shots? .22 rimfire or 22-250.

if you can TRANSFER the engergy to the flesh! a through and through shot on a fully jacketed round and your not going to have much "knock down power"

a .17 HMR with blastic (plastic) tip, designed to fragmet on impact transfering almost its entire energy to the target = drop em dead on impact

you want to reliably drop ground squirls /prairy dogs etc at 150 yds you need the .17 HMR

if your into longer range "reach out and touch someone" for varmit hunting 200 yard + you need to step up to a 22-250.

I knew someone would go into this detail:/..... I was just trying to give an example without all the little details for someone that is not fimilar with all the details.

I have a .41 rimfire Model 4 1/2, H&R revolver and .38 rimfire Model Dictator, Hopkins & Allen revolver. Try to find ammo for them.

The last I found of the .41 rf was vintage ammo and around $23 per round!!! Let's just say the one full box of .41 rimfire I have isn't going to get used any time soon.

If you ever run short, here's some more. That would make me cry everytime I pulled the trigger  RimfireCartridge3

Sad isn't it. Cost more to shoot my pistol than my .50BMG rifle. Looks like my ammo has gone up a little. The full box I have is the Pheonix Raised "P". It's selling for $37.50 each now.

What, no 22Magnum in that picture?:)

Just never made it into the picture. :) I shot that picture a couple of years ago for a post on a shooting forum I go to and have been using it ever since. It's a handy comparrison picture for people less informed about firearms.
