Rino coating a bucket?

You sound like me Jim /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I do the same thing. The best analogy I have heard is you do not paint your shovel to keep that nice new black color, so why keep your loader nice and new and shiny ? Part of the reason I keep my tractor so clean and well-maintained is just because I enjoy doing it. I find it very relaxing.

gar,

I like to keep the loader arms looking good too. Waxing those might be a once a year thing, just because grease is always a problem....Wax and grease don't mix so well. I use a fair bit of grease and I try to keep it from getting all over the place, but it's hard to do. However, I pay zero attention to my "shovel". I will admit, the top areas and the back of the loader bucket are worthy of some attention /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Slip Plate forms a bond with bare, clean steel. If applied to a freshly sandblasted or otherwise prepared steel surface, it is there just about forever. On rust, paint or other imperfections it is temporary.

Rick,

I found some info on "slip plate". Looks interesting...I was only able to find this picture of a bucket with it applied. Not sure if it comes in black. Might look into it some more when I have some time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How will it hold up (sandblasted surface) against 2000 lb rocks and hundreds of bucket fulls of of rock filled dirt, crushed stone etc? I can't believe anything could withstand that kind of abuse, but maybe this stuff will....

This stuff looks like it would be effective inside my snowblower body and the chute! Sandblasting is such a mess though. I hate it.

How about powder coating??
Theres places cropping up that do small jobs now.
Just make sure anything you want welded to bucket is done prior.

I can't imagine anything lasting on a bucket either. I've got around 320 hours on my tractor and the cutting edge is already showing signs of wear. I'm sure any coating would only be temporary.

True, true...It's the old Rock, paper, scissors game.
Beating steel against rocks with coatings in between will only make coating yield.
Maybe Kryptonite?? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Jim, I have to respectfully disagree. My 1989 JD770 had not be used very hard, however the previous owner liked to grade his gravel driveway with the bucket. When I bought the machine, with only 830 hrs on it, the bucket wear plates were almost completely gone, the reinforcing channel split and cutting edge almost dis appeared. Not only that but he used to park the machine with the bucket curled up, outside. So the bottom of the bucket had losts of rust and big pits in it due to water resting in the bottom. The bottom steel was nearly paper thin.

I was going to replace the cutting edge and bottom on my own, but a friend does this for a living and did an incredible job. He also beefed up the sides and added a grab hook to the top of the bucket with a thick steel plate to distribute the forces. It came out great, now it needs a coat of paint with the rest of the machine!

My brother has a 770 and paint or no paint, the bucket is weak and falling apart. It's all bent and mangled and he's not too hard on it. My father had one too and we cracked the top of it moving rocks as kids.

I have no intentions of "touching up" my bucket, which I believe this post was originally about (coating/painting and touching up buckets). But go nuts /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif A good coat of quality paint on the bucket is good and expected. I'll just say that I don't intend to keep it looking pretty for pretty sake. It's a heavy duty tool and it gets beaten. I know of no paint that will withstand the rigors of digging rocks and dirt in New England. When somebody finds one, I'll consider it.

Well, not the bucket but the floorboards is what I am thinking. The jury is still out on the rubber mat on the Case, I'll give it the rest of the year and see. Perhaps a nice red to match the rest of the machine /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
