What do you think of putting some kind of rino lining (like for truck beds) on a rear blade or a fel. I think it would help make the dirt, snow or whatever not stick and you would never have to paint again.

sorry about the spelling error. (ling - lining)

How is the rhino lining applied?....spray on I believe. Can you do this yourself? If not, you would have to haul your FEL buckets and other attachments over to the specialized truck cap/liner dealers for them to do this work. This may not be feasible for most of us....even if proven to be a good idea. Something to think on though......

The coatings I've seen are fairly rough compared to the smooth metal surfaces of the implements. I think it would not be what you want to keep stuff from clinging to the work edges, but nice for the balance of the implement to prevent rust. There's a pretty tough paint called Hammerite I've seen that I wondered about as far as the wear surfaces of implements. I have some that I am going to use on a truck bumper. We appear to have some painters out here, perhaps they can comment?

I've painted for 31 years. The Rhino linings and similer products are very rough. It would cause dirt to stick rather than repel. In fact, one of their advertising advantages is that cargo in truck beds will not shift like they will on the plastic liners.

if you want to inhibit your equipment from rusting try por-15. it is the paint they use on oil ships! it actually stops rust! i have it on my trailers and axels of my trucks. it is very thick. you dont even have to sand down the surface....just get rid of the flaking rust and por-15 does the rest!

Steve, how expensive is this POR-15 stuff including any prep and post application materials needed? Is it something that requires professional application?

Also, do you happen to work for them, and, if so, can you get us a TBN discount price? /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

There is Rust X which can be brushed or sprayed on rusty surfaces and incorporates the rust as part of the finish. I've only ever seen back. It runs about $40 / gallon.

I've used the aforementioned Hammerite paint. It does a really nice job but you would want to put many coats on if you were going to put this on an implement. I am getting ready to paint my old brush hog with it. I'll let you know how it goes. I've already painted some custom made handrails for my kids tree house and it puts on a really nice finish but that is just handrails. I'm not sure the working parts of an implement would fare as well.
