Correct, we elect them, we should do a better job at coming up with job requirements.

RIP
We have allowed them to give themselves so much power and so many benefits and extended stipends it's ludicrous...This is on top of all the opportunities their elected positions allow them...wealth is almost as much motive as political power...

What makes it even worse is the fact that a large portion of those that leave office become lobbyists...who are the root cause that the people have lost their voice to special interests...

Power, control, and money will ultimately co-opt even the best intentioned pol. It's human nature.

He did many good things prior to be coming politician. It was funny on news, half of the comments were how much better person he was verses trump. They are very few politician I respect. Most are local in small offices

That's why it's impossible to get back to the intentions of the forefathers...Congress was supposed to be a part time gig that elected leaders donated their time twice a year to do the legislative work set forth by their constituent's and the nation in whole...Then go back to their jobs and farms etc...no salaries, no expense and staff expense accounts, no staff carpool and limo expense accounts, no platinum health plans, no special benefits period.

You should try to get your news from a more worthy source...you're much more likely to hear factual truths and less biased demonizing rhetoric...

Didn't like his policies but a true American hero. Handled himself with class after leaving office...a great family man. He loved Barbara and I thought she was terrific. RIP George...thanks for your service to our country.

....and people should differentiate between "news" and "opinion".

Funny how people are so reluctant to speak ill of the dead.

I can't think of a single politician who "deserves respect". And if in some ways, they mess it up in others. Our Late Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Comes to mind.

George was and still is a great man for what he did long before moving into the Whitehouse. I submit that Sam Rayburn from the opposite side of isle equally deserve's respect. I grew up in a time when men had their hair cut every week, not because they were vain about their appearance but to catch up on news and discuss up coming elections. Had someone outright trashed Mr.Sam during those discussions,he would raise hackles of both parties alike. Perhaps people are reluctant to speak ill of the dead simply because they had spoke so horribly of them when they were alive.

Aside from politics, I have just noticed that. Every dead person suddenly becomes some kind of saint.
