Alan, I don't think that any of us have seen this happen before, and there is a good chance that Kubota may not have seen it either. Even though it is far out of warranty, I would bring it up with your dealer / Kubota field rep. Sometimes they will back something like this. Sometimes too, there can be a batch of parts that get out that are found later to have defects, and the company will back them though out of warranty. I had a carrier pin fail in a Chevy rear end once way out of warranty, but Chevy aknowledged that there were some bad ones in that serial number range, and they covered the repair. It's worth a shot anyway.

Wow! I never seen a bucket rip like that esp. with a BX. There is no way it should rip like that , but i do see alot of rust on the round shaft indicating its been long gone. But the question is how far along ago ? Was this the first time you used the bucket this year? :( I am sorry man, It gotta hurt to see your toy get ruined like that.

Yeah,it was mostly done by looking at that rust before you even dug with it last time, hard to tell from pictures but almost looks like a weld not tied into base metal[you got the rusty part, and the shiny part, than looks like a black part to it],if thats the case, thats where your crack started.

Any body interested, they make some stuff called dye penatrant, cheap, easy to use, does a real fine job of finding little cracks before they become big cracks.

Could've been a faulty initial weld...but more likely metal fatigue. You're probably the first BXer to "test" the metal/weld limits of the BX BH bucket.

The only comment I'll make about your plan to beef up the pin is...by doing so, you might move the point of failure farther up the BH next time. If it were me, I'd rather have it fail where it did...

No luck finding a shaft yet ,in my scrap pile.I got some other projects to attend to in the next week or so,before i can get started ANY HOW.
Iwas just thinking,if any of you find yours is failing ,i would cut the caps off that pipe and stick a shaft in there now ,before yours looks as bad as mine.It would be very easy to do.
Asolid shaft in there ought to make it bullet proof
Before i start ill check this thread for any other advice, you all might have.
This winter ive got plans on rebushing this hoe.Even though i grease it by the book, its getting alittle sloppy at the pins.

I know you want a solid piece of pipe but if you put a another tube inside that tube it will increase the strength two fold and it will be lighter than a solid piece of pipe.

You are correct, but the first pipe is already broke:)How much could a 1.5 by 12 inch shaft weigh?10 LBS? not alot when talking lift capacity.I understand your point though, will consider.

escavader, perhaps wushaw meant that he is referring to others with backhoe to add a reinforcing tube before thiers break ? As in your case, since yours is already broken, I would say a solid bar is now needed to do a full repair of bucket.

Escavader can still fix his bucket with 1.5"X.250 DOM tube and be very adequate since he still has to weld up the origional busted tube.
A solid bar will work also just not needed. The repair will work either way.

How many buckets has any of us seen on this forum or any other. Very rare I would say.

How come no one has said anything about the bucket being worked to hard. Don't you even think that it is a remote possibility? Plus a little bit of rust.
