Ripper for backhoe bucket

I built a ripper attatcment for my backhoe bucket, now to see if it works. the ripper shank is Cat not sure what it is off of, I found it in my dad's scrape pile.

I sure could have used that yesterday, dug up and old stump. Would have been nice to have something like that to bust up the roots.

Operational report!!

I wasn't sure about the angle in comparison to the bottom of the bucket, so I made it a few degrees forward of perpendicular, so as long as I maintain the bucket flat the ripper is slightly angled forward. I like that aspect, I cuts roots real nice and does pretty good on the frost although I need to put a sharper tooth on it. It really is nice for cutting roots between real close trees, that's too narrow for the bucket. Overall very happy, an afternoon and some scrap is all that it cost.

Nice work! Its always nice to come with an idea, dig through a scrap pile, find what you need, put it all together, and have it turn out like this.

I envy you having access to Dad's scrap pile!!

I bet it does do a great job of ripping roots. I had to take out a few 4"-6" trees this spring by hand and sure wished that I had a bh and something like what you made. Looks great. If you get a chance to take a pic when using it would be nice.
