HappyCPE, I'm sorry I didn't mention the monetary benefits, I should have. I get a minimum of $10,000 total for a maximum of 5 paid hunters and their 16 year old and younger children hunting with the parent in a blind hunting off of their parents allotment. But this is only the icing on the cake I'm taxed as if I was in AG instead of recreational use of my land by virtue of Wildlife Management and the hunters are part of my management plan. This saves me $25,000 in taxes every year besides the hunter income.
As far as a local farmer offering $2,000 for use of your land for hunting if it were controlled and spelled out in writing what they could and couldn't do on a legal document with him maintaining an insurance policy to protect your interest and the hunters signing a release of liability I'd think you'd have the best of both worlds. You wouldn't have to worry about collecting the money from hunters and the local farmer would have the monkey on his back should anything arrise plus you'd have somebody to ride herd on the hunters if they didn't abide by their agreement. I'd at least try it for a year and see how they behave. Worst case you might have to call the sheriff if the hunters get out of hand but it seems like your local farmer is going to have his land hunted whether you do or not and if they are hunting your fenceline your likely to have them come visit anyway by means of the aforementioned wounded deer scenario. $2,000 sounds like a heck of a deal for you for 14 or so acres.
