Looks like I will be spending the weekend hunkering down in Houston. They say I'm essential but that's only a nice way of saying "you ain't going nowhere". I know Mikim is hunkering down near the coast, at his job with the weather service, he is a great source of information. I'll post some pictures when there is something to take a picture of.

Many filling stations are out of fuel, and the grocery stores were very crowded and the shelves are emptying. Yesterday all the batteries, tape, flashlights and generators were sold out. hundreds of thousands of people are evacuating. All the evacuation routes are moving at a snails pace. It is taking 10 hours to drive 70 miles. Katrina has put the FEAR in everyone on the Gulf coast.

Who else is in Rita's path and what are you doing?

I'm in the projected path, but far enough north that all we expect is a lot of rain; probably only be a tropical storm by the time it gets this far inland. Today I'm going to fill up the generator, Land Cruiser, and tractors, and then fill up the gas/fuel cans again.

Good luck to you all. Living in Vermont we don't experiance that kind of weather. Just cold and snow. We can dig out of that if we have to.
Keep your heads down.

Man, this one looks like it's all business. I hope people realize whats up.

An article told of a woman who is staying in Galveston with her hubby to ride it out. What are they thinking?

txdon-

Now it is my turn to tell you to be careful. Fire is one thing, but 175 mph winds and rain (not to mention storm surge) is another. Let us know you are OK ASAP.

Good luck, Txdon & others living on the central Texas coast. I don't wish what we went through with Katrina on anyone. Still no electricity.

Best advice is to get out unless you are sure you will not flood, & that your place is safe from falling trees.
