I have a customer that wants a price to lay a road base driveway about 180 feet long and 9 feet wide and about 5 inches thick. I have never priced a driveway before. What would a fair price be for the labor? I will be spreading it with a bobcat s-330 with an 80inch bucket. Thanks

If he wants it finished and ready to pave, compacted, ect I would expect your price to be in the neighborhood of $5 per square yard.

But if you prefer a break down, 500#/sy times your price per ton (including trucking). I get 45 tons, (two loads with a mini wheeler, plus a bit if its a steel dump body). Around here, thats $6 per ton, and trucking runs roughly $50-60/hr. I expect you can spread and wheel roll it all in in one 10 hr day. If they want it all boxed out, and rock flush with natural ground make sure you account for time stripping and what happens to the strippings.

180 sy x $5=$900

Or 45 x $6=$270 material
Trucking $60/hr x 3 hrs=$180
Machine $75 x 10 hrs =$750
Total=$1200

8 hrs machine time plus trucking and materials =$1050

So, $900-1200 depending on distance to rock mine, your specific contract requirements, and your hourly rate on a machine.

Or if its just labor, and he buys everything (delivered too), I would say $600-$750 plus maybe a bit for mobilization. Just be sure your both on same page regarding what he expects.

I simply charge $60 per hour with my equipment.

All you can do is guesstimate.

I think $60 is low on a full sized skid steer. After I finished typing, I almost edited it to $85, basically I figure $35+(1/2 your HP). I didn't look up his machine, but I'm guessing 85-95 HP. If you buy materials, don't forget to mark up for sales tax, 15% profit, and profit on top of the trucking. I don't see the client getting many people to fool with it for less than $2000.

Edit: I did look up spec, its an 85 HP. There's nothing magic about my number, I just tried to find a good way to price tractors/skid steers/CTLs based on size, fuel consumption, and depreciation.
