letsroll great job i read the entire post and now i wanna make one just for fun, lol. its great when they publish so many pics of products made for our tractors. I made a grade blade and tooth bar for my kubota bx23 and now i get to do it all over again for the new b3030. tractor work is great around here, seems like no one does it anymore. if you get real serious about it then i suggest you get some insurence, its only 52 bucks a month for 1 million coverage through state farm and worth it for the peace of mind. i quit my full time job to do tractor work because of that little bx23 and now ive bought a new tractor and ztr mower to do lawns. just like you im having the time of my life and making money doing it.

what demensions would you suggest for my b3030? the outside width of the tread is 54 inches. how long and how wide and how far apart ar those blades?

great job man !!!!

Same here about tractor work. Everybody and there brother is mowing commercially. I tried it for awhile, but I was getting underbid real bad and decided to keep my full time job. My mower is a zero turn grasshopper. Pretty much I just mow my own yard (2.5 acres) right now. Allot of commercial rigs place a bid and later on down the road, they raise there price/rates (seen it to many times). Thought about trying that route but decided against it for the time being. But I will be making a carrier change here in the next year or two. Just got to get some frying pans cleaned out first before I go out on my own. Tractor work around here is slim, but that will probably be the route I take with a little mowing on the side. As for the demensions on my road grader. Front to rear= 5ft, side to side= 7ft and height= 18inchs. The blades are 2.5 feet apart. First one is in the middle and the back one is in the back. As for your tractor, I'd make it the width of your back tires plus 6 inches. 5 foot blades would work real well with your tractor. Sides, I'd go with 12 to 18 inchs. Length, I go with 4 foot. The cuting edges is what really make these graders the cats meow. By the way, your ztr mower is a nice set up. I just wish I'd bought a diesel mower instead of gas. If you dont mind me asking, what are the diesel Kubota's going for these days(like the one you own ZD326)? I might just trade mine in since I dont owe a penny on it.

cool thanks man, i love building stuff like that especially when it makes a job easier and mor profitable.
as for the kubota it was 11,400 but dont run off and buy one yet. i actaully lost a account today because my mower was to heavy for their yard, they have a anarobic septic system which coats the yard with $#it when it gets full i guess, and the guy wants the yard mowed every 10 days. not every 5-7 as it needs where the pop launcher is. other than that i love it, you can actually mow as fast as you can hold on to it and do a dang good job. it weighs about 1700 lbs so it heavy for a ztr but not bad for a diesel ztr, the ferris weighs over 2500 i was told. their yard is soft so it was an issue, the rest of the world its been a great machine.
all is not lost not 30 minutes after i lost the 65.00 every 10 day job i got a 50.00 every 7 day job that i did for the first time for me and this year in just over an hour. The 65 one took 3 hours the first time and i got stuck the second, had to get the bota to pull me out.
alot of the commercial guys with crews around here are high to start with then raise the price later in the year, also they almost all require a contract. me my prices are reasonable, im a english speaking guy, i know plants and landscape, and do tractor work also. I have yet to not get a job i gave an estimate on so im doing good in my eyes. tractor work i just charge by the hour at 50.00 per hour and if more than 10 minutes from me i charge a 100 minimum to be there. i was at 45.00/hr but with the new machine i have to cover fuel cost for transport.
good luck man

Just a suggestion on getting harden blades. Around here in Maine you can go to the town garage. They replace the plow edges yearly. I have bought them for scrap price.

Way back we had a homemade grader all made from 6 x 6 stock, bolted together using 3/8 x 4 blades that were lagged to the 6 x 6 stock.

.....Road maintainance was generally done every 3-4 weeks and at that time we pulled the grader with an old Willis jeep in first gear.

That grader was basically 8 ft wide x 8 ft long and towed with 2 chains, one from each corner of the bumper to the 2 front corners of the drag scraper.

Good luck!
Any chance of a picture of that old Willys working? I still believe the Jeep was the forerunner of the 4wd CUT. I count my '47 among my tractors.

Thanks for sharing the story.
