Years ago we were heading up Rte 201 near Caratunk ME where the Appalachian Trail used to cross the river. Two hikers had camped out on the shoulder overnight and were just getting up when we drove past. Especially back then the road was busy with tractor trailer loads of logs, starting at o'dark in the morning. It seemed like a recipe for disaster, but apparently God really does love fools.

The discharging into the road was just discussed in another thread, and apparently there are a lot of people who do it and don't see a problem. I took out a greenhouse window with a push mower when I was a kid, so am pretty careful about it. I've also had grass blown in through my window when driving past somebody out mowing their lawn; thankfully they didn't find some debris just as I went past.

survival of the fittest applies, and I think mulched people make good fertilizer, I'm not too sure though.. I had a teen sitting in the middle of the road, when asked, he said I'm just waiting for a friend!.. WHAT??..

Had a mower sling a hunk of metal across my hood one day. A second later it would have come right in my window.

People mowing with their discharge chute facing the road is a pet peeve of mine. Bare minimum is the clippings get sucked up in the radiators of the first few cars to drive over them. Especially bottom feeder cars like a Corvette. I wish our county would pass an ordinance against it but even if they did they wouldn't enforce it.

It is not a pet peeve for me, it is a full blown ready to explode moment for me. Especially those that have the deflector removed or tied up with a bungee strap. There should be a law against blowing the discharge toward the road and commercial cutters removing the deflectors. I heard the other day on the local news that Illinois does have a law against discharging grass onto the roadway because of the danger it creates for motorcycle riders.

Illinois has laws for everything, even outlawing Constitutional rights, but our lawmakers never found a law they don't like to pass as long as it lines their pockets.

People don't have a Constitutional right to endanger others, nor litter..

My reference to our lawmakers passing laws that on Constitutional rights, doesn't mean littering is legal. Although from your post, you sound like one of our lawmakers who are always telling us how they are working on making us safer by passing one more law.

Many place have laws against blowing grass onto the roadway. Safety concerns one would think but it seems often times its a issue because of the grass ending up in the sewer systems. Main problem though is as usual, lack of enforcement.

I doubt that any grass discharged onto the roadway stays on the road past the first couple of cars blowing it off.

This may be another example of looking for a problem that is really not a problem!

Just one mans opinion!
