Several family members have asked me to look for some B-I-G rocks to put in their landscaping. I'm also planning some large multilevel ponds and will need rocks for spillway/waterfalls between the levels. My wife owns about 22 acres of scrub oak and about 1/10 of her property is covered in huge limestone rocks.

So with my trusty rock bucket and grapple, I've set out on an adventure I call "rock-o-dile hunting." Here are some examples of the beasts I need to "capture."

Oh... My apologies to Steve Irwin. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Here's the process...

First I approach the rock carefully and try to get under the lip so I can pluck it out of the ground.

Another angle...
The rock won't fit into the bucket, it's too wide.

Ohhh!
Sometimes they flop around and do some damage. We may have to call the "vet" in to treat this wound. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This "rock-o-dile" has a hidden compartment. Maybe I could call it a rock-box. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, that's all for this episode. Stay tuned to our next adventure when the Rock-o-dile Hunter says, "Put the ROPs up! This one is gonna put up a fight...." /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Business tips: Charge by the pound. Charge 50% extra for the key hiding compartment.

( jinman,
those are some fine rocks. People down here PAY top dollar for those things. )

I may just try to sell a few since I have so many rocks. I think I have to get a system for doing less damage. If someone buys a rock and then I break it while trying to deliver it, that would not be good. I'm also working on a way to use my loader with the rock bucket removed to lift and move the rocks. If I use nylon straps and the rock bucket is off, I gain over 700 lb of lift. That will keep me from dragging a rock across somebody's lawn if I'm delivering. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I see being able to deliver and place the rock as a big plus if I decide to sell them. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No rattlers yet...

I bet when I do discover some, (I'm sure I will) it will be a whole nest of them. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I actually had it up until I kept knocking limbs down into my lap while squeezing through the scrub oak trying to get to the rocks. If it were just head-high, I think I'd like it a lot better. As it is, I still have memory of the knots and bruises I've gotten from having stuff fall on my head. It's kinda "darned if you do, darned if you don't." /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
