Roll over bar too high

Best choice is a tall enough opening - but sounds like you guys need a "tell-tale". Railroads used to use these outside of tunnel portals - I assume to alert a brakeman to get off the roof in time - or warn someone of an overheight load. Not sure how they'd get stopped in time though.

How about a chime/bell/noisemaker (cow bell?) or the like hung and positioned so you'd hit it with the rops a few feet from the door - time enough to hit the brakes. Or someone a little more high tech oriented might be able to adapt a garage door safety sensor beam.

How about a spot Lite or a burglar alarm - mount alarm above garage door - sensor on roll bar. (No backin's allowed) Better yet put an alarm on both doors. Now you will know when Deerebabe is home. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Put a flourescent orange piece of tape along the bottom of the door where you go in. When the door is up you will see it and remind yourself that you have to drop the ROPS.

Here's my 2 cents...

ROPS are designed to keep you from getting crushed in case of a roll over, that is if you have your seatbelt on. Tractor manufacturers don't take into account door height as they are mandated by federal Law.

So...

Either get a folding ROPS, or build a lean to and park it there. If you get a folding ROPS (Rollover Protective Structure), when you have the ROPS folded, don't wear your seatbelt and hope you can jump clear if you get stupid and roll the machine. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Allright guys,

You had to bring this one up didn't you. My garage is 8 feet high and never had a problem with the ROPS until today. I don't care how high your garage is, it is no good if the door isn't up. Yep I did it. Had the garage door opener in my pocket, raised the door up, now I usually turn around and back in and while doing this I must have hit the opener again. It was on it's way down as I was backing in. Yep had a heck of a time getting the door down now that it is wrecked, its minus 5 here right now, garage is heated. I had to take a lot of it apart and then put back together once I got it down. Looks like it will have to be replaced. Wife laughed, that didn't help.

Moral of the story, I don't care how tall your garage is, if door is down ROPS will hit it. Tractor is ok though.

I would have to say that having a ROPS 5 inches to high might be a hindrance, but, I am so glad that mine is as high as it is. It does fold and at that I can just get it in the garage. I can appreciate the height because I had mine bottom side up once and I like the room it gave me under the machine. As a result I didn't get a scratch and neither did the tractor, in part thanks to the loader arms. I was fortunate to have installed an underneath muffler. My crew helped me push it onto it's side and then we used a comealong to upright it, checked the oil and went back to work. Be sure to always put the rops back up and have it pinned, I can say I owe my well being to one.
