The front axle is on a pivot, the rear axle is solid. All the stability of a tractor comes from that solid rear axle. If the rear ever comes off the ground, you are balancing on the 1 pivot pin holding the front axle on. So the tractor will start to fall to one side or the other. Jamming the bucket down provides stability & drops the rear down. So you now have the bucket & rear tires keeping the machine from falling over.

And this is why rear ballast is so important. I knew that. Violated the laws of physics and paid the price.

Rear tires are now loaded so that will help in the future.

If a person has never rolled a vehicle they will have a completely different perspective than someone who has.

In regards to the OP, he knows things that we do not. I've never rolled that vehicle in that situation. So I am left to listen carefully to what he says if I plan to gain knowledge from this discussion.

We need mentors to help future farmers or hobbyists work safer.

What "we" need is more realistic simulators for kids to play in and experience the dangers WITHOUT getting hurt.

I almost went over after the rear wheels went up when a front wheel dropped into a covered hole. The FEL was full of wet sand.
After that I practiced getting a wheel up to try to calibrate my pucker factor.
