Roll Up Steel Workshop Doors

I don't have a ton of knowledge about these, but I see this label a lot on the commercial canister style doors.

Another option could be a curtain. Vinyl welding curtains are fire proof.

I'm not sure about the fire proof vinyl welding curtains. I had one of those separating my work shop and my sand blast room. Also I had two on the walls on swing out brackets to help protect people as they walked past my two welding booths and I also had them surrounding my plasma table. When the fire came they were all left on the floor as a pile of molten plastic. They may hold down sparks and some slag and give eye protection but useing them as a fire break is a bad idea.

Totally agree. I thought the OP just wanted spark protection, I guess I misread the situation. But if it's a wooden barn, I don't think anyone should really plan on one half being fully fire proof from the other half, or from mother nature.

Too many variables here for anyone to even speculate as to what you really want. How is the building constructed? Of what is the structure constructed? Wood? Steel? Sounds like you are wanting an exterior fire resistant door? Why? Is there another building close-by? Why do you want an interior fire resistant door? Are you simply trying to separate the wood and metal shops? Do you know the difference between "sawdust" and "finely divided combustible dust"? What are you trying to protect from what hazard? How many hours do you want for the door to be rated? A real fire rated door is probably gross overkill for your situation. AND, gross does not begin to describe the money you will spend on a 12' x 8' roll up door. With all respect, if you are thinking that a fire rated door is necessary, you need to be talking to building professionals and not a tractor forum filled with well meaning but in this case out-of-their-element folks. No disrespect towards anyone here but this guy needs assistance from knowledgeable building people before he spends $8 - 10K for a fire door he most likely does not need and will never recoup his costs through insurance amortization. But I am just a structural engineer who sat on the code development committees for ICC, BOCA and ICBO for 25 years, so what do I know?
