Root Grapple cost?

OK, have all but decided on the Mahindra 5035 HST. The dealer wants to sell me a heavy duty grapple (set up and installed) for $3,995. That seems pretty high to me. Sorry, I forgot to check on the make and model. It looked real serious, but not super wide. Any thoughts?

Are the kits for grapples expensive and are they difficult to set up for someone who has never done so? How much should that add to the price of a grapple?

My 77" Frontier root grapple was $3,500 and the third valve kit was $1100 and I installed it. If you look at true heavy duty root grapples, they are expensive.

Compare prices at WR Long or Gator for your size tractor. Check your tractor options for standard hydraulic remotes. If they are included that might reduce your costs.

Hi Rob, I am going to be purchasing a root grapple (rake style) and the best price I can find is at skidsteerexpress.com A 72 inch is 1575 and free freight to a trucking terminal or comercial address. I am going to get the 60" very soon. I havebought from this compamy before and they have good equipment, good prices and great to deal with. Check it out and happy tractoring. . . John

That price sounds about right. As said above the third valve kit will run about $1000 and a heavy duty, well engineered grapple will be around $3000. You can probably get a valve kit cheaper from another source, but personally I would prefer the factory option. That is just personal preference. Many posts on here with people happy with aftermarket ones.
I would be interested to know what brand grapple he is quoting the price on.

I just bought a WR Long 64" OBG2 grapple for $2500.00. The price included a diverter valve and hoses. I put in on the front of my JD 4720. The Deere dealership labor was $440 on top of the grapple price for a total of $2940.00 installed. The OBG2 weighs 685 lbs. I was a bit concerned about the weight, but the 400 cx loader has picked up anything I tried with it so far. I've been moving some pine and sweet gum logs about 18 to 24" in diameter with a length of 8 to 14 feet. Search for WR Long and check out the grapples on their web page. It's very well made, and I don't think even I can tear it up

I had to run look at my paper work and double check my numbers. I got a Kubota true third function valve installed for $1000, 84" X-treme Root Grapple from CID Attachments including shipping and all hoses and hose ends for $2,800, the feeling I get using it...Priceless. :thumbsup:

Rob, if you get the diverter valve for the front, operated with a button or switch that is located in-on the loader control handle. ( which I highly recommend by the way) The valve installed with the hoses and quick connects run up to and fastened at the front of the loader should run you in the neighborhood of $1000 + or - a few $$. OR you can just run a set of hoses forward from your rear remote and just use that. A lot less $$$, but not nearly as convenient.

You have looked at the grapples, there is just no way that you need anything that costs over $2k for the 5035. Isn't the dealer trying to sell you a grapple that he has on his lot? Forget about the one that he has, it's too much $$$$ for what you want or need. In my opinion you should get a root grapple such as we have talked about in the past. You can have it setting on the ground with the grapples wide open and hand load if need be, and with as much stuff that you have to move-clean up, there will be times when you will want to do just that.

You should be in the $3K arena for your 3rd function front control valve and a root grapple. When you order your 5035, don't forget to order both the rear remotes that they have for the tractor. 2nd one is optional. You will need both of them in the future for your top and tilt hydraulics when you get down to the grading portion of your project.

There is a Toggle Switch installed.

The second valve is $910 installed. Just for reference the first one is not used in the installation of the Grapple.

Are you going with the R-4 Industrial Tires?

Does this grapple sound OK or too expensive?
What about the second valve cost?

Are the Industrials the wider, shorter tires or the taller, narrower ones? I forgot. I have plenty of mud right now, but will also be working on a hillside and long term using this tractor more in horse pastures which I wouldn't want to tear up. Thoughts?

Can you post a link so that we can see what type of grapple that it is? I do not see a tine grapple and typically Long grapples are more money than other brands. From what I saw on WR Longs website, I would not get any grapple that they offer. But that is just me.

Is the price for the 2nd valve for the front remote or the rear? Either way it is about right for cost, Are you adding a remote for the front and the 2nd remote at the rear or just the 2nd remote at the rear? You mentioned a switch, but no cost. That would normally be used with the remote for the front to be used with the grapple. You should have 2 seperate remote costs, 1 for the front and 1 more to add the 2nd remote to the rear.

Yes the industrial tires (R4) are the shorter, but wider tires. Much tougher than the AG (R1) tall narrower tires.
