I have a grapple that has root rake teeth on it but the turn up at about a 30 deg angle. So to use it to rip roots out I have to tilt it about 60 deg. That puts it in the part of my carriage travel that has a fair bit of slop in it. I know with my bucket the closer to "home" the bucket is the more solid it is. So I found a root rake that operates with the carriage down in that "home" position. IE all the way down with arms against the frame of the skid steer. Will the second described race work better than my grapple rake? The grapple rake is more like grubbing. I can't get any speed up because if I hit something solid the carriage takes all the impact. On the second design the frame of the skid steer takes the bulk of the inpact because the arms are bottomed out against the stops.

Thanks for any replies.

I think you have to download the TBN App to post pictures with a phone.

Root raking at any speed faster than a crawl is a job for a bulldozer. Neither skid steer nor tractor FELs are engineered or built to do that. Both are designed for lifting not to absorb shock loads. A bulldozer is designed for shock loads with short stubby arms mounted so the arms are in line with the load.
