I did that with the 4310 I owned. It split the header board and dislodged the trimwork from over the door. I am fully convinced that had I not stopped quickly, almost in the anticipation of the moment, I would have had an exact rendition of my ROPS in the garage entrance of my house.

How's it going Ralph, I recently put on a garage door opener, my door opening was 8' and the door opener was made for a 7' door (girlfriend got it for my birthday) , I had planned on getting an extension for the opener in the spring, but until then I think maybe I'll take the remote out of my toolbox on the tractor so that everyone who puts it in or takes it out has to get off the seat to push the button on the wall, might be easier to notice the rops up. I'm going to measure the rops and the door opening today and if the rops fits in the opening I just might unhook the opener and go back to the manual opener (human) until I get the extensions. Thank you for the post!

Hi Don, you're right I'm thinking that he'll never do that again, now on the other hand, he'll be so busy looking up that he just might get something with the bucket or backblade. I'll have nightmares about that /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. I didn't yell at him for it because like you I've had my share of opps. Hum I wonder if he's broken a mirror lately? Take care and have a great weekend!

Hi Michael, now that the height issue is well burned into his memory, now we have to work on the wide swing of the backblade and fel bucket, I'm sure that's probably next on the agenda. Enjoy the weekend!

crazylare,

It is a senior moment waiting to happen. Glad the damage was minor. If it were me, the first project of the spring would be to raise the header if possible . . . meanwhile, hang a sign off of the bottom that reads: FOLD THE ROPS! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hello John, It sure can do lots of damage, that's for sure! It almost makes one feel lucky at times and unlucky at other's. Funny thing is, the tractor didn't feel a thing. Tractor 1 - Garage door 0. Thanks for the post!

How ya doing JDFANATIC? I can't raise the header any higher than it is because of the ceiling height but I'm thinking that if I had the extentions on the door opener it might fit with the rops up, I plan on doing some measuring today. Funny but yesterday before the accident my girlfriend and I was talking about the rops (she was a paramedic) and she doesn't like me to use the tractor with the rops down, she mentioned a sign on the header with the word rops on it to remind me. I think that I'll take some rope and hang a piece of plastic on it from the opening with the word rops on both sides. That way I'll see it from both inside and outside of the garage. I tend to put the rops up in the garage to work on fabricating my old attachments to fit the i-Match and then forget that I put it up. Thanks for the idea!

I'm personally guilty of ripping the garage door off with my ROPS. No saving that puppy, it came down in pieces and the track was twisted like a pretzel.

I must have a mental block about raised items (either that or I'm just an idiot, take your pick). I ruined a brand new set of ladder racks on my pickup by trying to back into a tight space and forgetting I had installed them the week before. I've also driven into my garage with 3 bikes up the roof rack - the car made into the garage the bikes - still attached to the racks - ended-up in a heap on the driveway. My daughters learned a whole bunch of swear words that day. They love to re-tell that story at every family gathering.

Well hello norm, I'm sure that the boy won't hear the end of it for awhile either, but on the good side of that, he'll be thinking of the rops from now on. Sorry about your door, hope that it didn't happen in the winter. I'll bet that your face turns red at every family gathering, gives you something to look forward to. Gotta laugh about it to keep ya from crying! Thanks for the post!

Luckily for me, my garage door is higher than my ROPS. Where I have trouble is when I am brush hogging around my apple and pear trees. I never remember about the ROPS being over my head until I hear the branches crack. More than once I've had a broken branch end up on my head. Fortunately, none of the branches has been too big and my head is fairly hard. Still hurts though.
