ROPS never can be told this enough

Why would anybody need seatbelt extenders?
Are they worried about their health/safety?

I was comparing worrying about being one of 130 tractor deaths to the 300,000 obesity related deaths. I’m sorry if this offends anyone, and I say this only out of concern, but why talk for pages about the necessity of ROPS and seat belts but ignore the most likely cause of death?

This thread made me think that I really need to do something about the seat belt on my 4410. The webbing has worn through on the male buckle part and the retract mechanism seems to be permanently retracted at this point. So just for fun I looked up the part in John Deere parts. $264.xx CAD. Cough cough.

Thanks for the seat belt link. I found one on there for about $48 USD (roughly $75 CAD). It has a retracting mechanism that looks like it will do the job. I can even order the color of webbing I want.
I found one there as well. The retractable ones are nice so it stays reasonably clean.

agreed 100%. if a seat belt extender is needed, there's a much bigger problem with health!..

No obese person who died in a roll over, or a car crash, ever went on to live a healthier lifestyle.

^^^ Probably the least helpful addition to this thread

Also points to a lack of understanding of statistics.

As a tractor operator, you don't have an equal chance to every other tractor operator of dying while operating it. Rather, your chance of dying in a rollover accident is dependent on a number of factors - including whether or not you have a ROPS and seatbelt.

If his wife is in a rollover, her chance of dying from being crushed is instantaneously substantially larger than her chance of dying from any other health issues.

Regardless of other health status, it's imperative that operators properly wear a seat belt when the ROPS is in place (which is hopefully whenever the tractor is in use anywhere there is vertical clearance allowing it).

Seat belt extenders are also sometimes used when the factory set up is difficult to use, due to a poor design, or a drivers physical disabilities.

A short extender left plugged into the female end of the belt, can end the fumbling around along side the seat looking for the end. Which some vehicles require.

I'd like to see any accidents where the foldup ROPS are folded like I run mine all the time (because up, it won't fit inside my garage like the 4010's would when up).

They should make the ROPS just high enough to fit underneath garage doors like the 4010's was.

The height of the ROPS is mandated by the government. And was determined through testing.

It is also designed to try and keep a tractor from flipping over backwards. Which seems to be why they are so high.
