Remember the OP has a rops ands just wants to convert it to a folding type. That does not require much material to fix it.

When I checked this year a folding ROPS w/seat belt and mounting hardware for my JD 2030 was $690 plus tax from my dealer. I did not "need" folding, but it would be nice. I found a non folding factory JD ROPS on CL for $100, then spent almost that much for grade 8 mounting hardware. The seller took it off because it would not fit under a loft in his barn. He felt his ground was flat enough to not need it. I should have tried to buy the seat belt too, but did not think about that when I picked it up.

thank you, I actually think if I cut it to shorten it, it should be stronger to hinge and brace it then just shorten and reweld.

Thanks, i have done that, I actually was thinking of those trailer tongue hinges, just and drill, if one can handle the stress of a 7000 lb trailer bouncing 2 should hold in a rollover, but at 90 a pc I can probably find a used folding rops for a little more.

How much shorter does the ROPS have to be to fit in the door?
Thinking maybe just cutting out a section and re-welding. Still should help if ever a roll-over, which are rare.

well I guess I should have mentioned that, I need 5-6 inches out, but I am 6'4" so that will put the rops either right out my head or just below when I set on the tractor

Those with folding ROPS that fold them to park in a shed, seem to just leave them folded. Take their chances that they'll recognize before it is needed, and fold them back up.
So.. I'm thinking shorten it 6 inches, and it still should be taller than your head height.
Also, will catch fewer low limbs that catch and whop you behind the head.

Or, consider raising the header of the shed door.. ;)

A trade up to a newer subcompact tractor was stymied by not being able to get anything but a folding ROPS. I can get the fixed ROPS in my 8' garage doors, and just knew I'd forget to fold the new one and have a mess. So I still have the trusty 4300 with straight ROPS and other than the limbs hitting me behind the head, getting along just fine.

well I found a local fab shop that is modifying my rops. Doesn't seem to be as big of a deal as people make it, just about every place I called seemed willing to do it. I was going to do it myself but for the price I am letting them do it.
