kubota/b2910
i have a folding ROPS on my b2410, but was just told today that kubota can lower the ROPS so that my tractor with fit in a garage without folding. do anyone think there could be truth in this? its seems to me that if you lower the hieght of the ROPS this would defeat purpose.
thanks

Steve, not sure about Orange tractors, but Deere offers either tall or normal ROPS as an option. The tall is for use with a backhoe (I guess so you don't bonk your head?). I've got the normal height on mine and it barely fits in the seven foot garage door. Maybe you've got a tall version? If I'm ever lucky enough to add a backhoe I'll have to build my barn to keep it in with the taller ROPS.

Of course then I'll need a post hole auger to build the barn, and a trailer to carry all this stuff, more chain to hold everything on the trailer, a bigger truck to pull it all...

Whew, that backhoe sure is expensive /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Hope I helped a bit /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The folding ROPS is taller than the rigid ROPS, so it's possible that with a rigid ROPS you could get in your garage without problems. Unfortunately, there is no published information on tractor height with various tires and ROPS bars for you to figure out if it will fit or not.

If you can tell everyone what tires you have maybe someone has the tractor/tire/ROPS cobination in question and could measure it for you. I might be able to find the combination on my local dealer's lot too and could measure it.

Yeah, you're right, that defeats the entire purpose of the folding ROPS, which is there so you don't have to compromise the overall height of the ROPS for storage. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif How would they go about lowering it?

Muhammad,

I don't know about a proper way to lower ROPS but when my Dad bought his 1520 (Ford) about 10 years ago he had a problem with ROPS and cab height for his garage. His dealer at the time cut a section out of each side of the ROPS and then welded the remainder back together. Solved the height problem but I suspect resulted in some compromise of structural integrity.

The taller ROPS that are used with units that have backhoes are taller for a special reason and it's not so you don't bump your head. It's very possible that if you mistakenly use a non hardened pin at the center connection of the three point hitch, that you could shear the pin and be thrown upward with the reverse hydraulic force on the backhoe. The extra height of the correct ROPS for backhoe use may help to keep you from being crushed against the ROPS. At least that is the intent of the higher ROPS.

Steve- I just took delivery of a B2710 and discussed ROPS options with my dealer. I believe he was able to look up the height of any tractor/tire/ROPS combination. I wanted to drive my tractor into the garage (standard 7' opening) without having to lower a folding ROPS everytime. The fixed ROPS on the B2710 with R4 tires goes in with aprx. 3" to spare. I also might want to add a canopy sometime and I should still have enough clearance with the fixed. If you're dealer is suggesting they could cut out some steel from both sides of your folding ROPS I'd be concerned about the structural integrity. If you don't need folding ROPS, say for getting under trees or other low areas, why don't you ask if he'll swap your folding for a fixed? My dealer said he'll do a swap with me anytime if I decide I'd rather have a folding ROPS.
