Apologies, but I can't search any forums, I get an "internal server error".

Is replacing the blades on my Land Pride 6' rotary cutter beyond the scope of a do it yourselfer? I have the instructions, just not sure how hard of a job it is. Mine are beyond sharpening at this point. Thank you.

I do not have a landpride but I have replaced the blades on Woods RC. I don't think you will have much of a problem. On mine the pin that holds the blade on comes up through the bottom and I had my wife start the nut once I got the blade and pin in place.

depends on the model.. and the way the blades attach to the stump jumper or blade carrier.. generally there are shouldered bolts and locknuts.. some can be accessed from the bottom.. some have a hole in the deck for a ratchet and big socket.

that and lock the input shaft with a piece of rebar.. etc.

For a do-it-youselfer, the most challenging part will be the size of the bolt/nut. You'll probably need a 3/4" breaker bar and socket. I had to use a 4' - 6' pipe (cheater) slid over the breaker bar too. I didn't have a 3/4" set until I had to change the blades on mine. I've used it more than I thought I would after that.

It's a do it yourself job with the proper tools and some patience, and lots of penetrant like PB blaster. The nuts are large, and likely rusted on. As mentioned before you will need 3/4 inch drive sockets and a good impact wrench or breaker bar. I would recommend soaking them with the PB stuff and give it some time to work. I soaked mine several times as I had to wait several days for the sockets to come in the mail. You can buy individual ones if you don't want to buy a whole set. Good ones are pricey. With the right stuff it's not too bad. Prior to doing the right way, I tried to get them off with the the tools I had on hand. It was a complete waste of time, you need the right tools for this job!

might hit a chinese store.. I got a set of 3/4 sockets, ratchet and breaker bar from them for 30some odd bucks.. big monster things... ugly.. but tough.. have yet to break one.. even doing pull up on the afore-mentioned 4' and 6' helpers!

Thank ya kindly folks! I have a 1/2" air impact wrench on a decent compressor, but sounds like 3/4" is more like it. I'll start soaking and see what else comes up. By the way, if you've ever used Kroil, you'll never use PB Blaster again, it's that much better : )

I got mine off with a 1/2 inch impact wrench with a 1/2 to 3/4 adaptor. Its a pretty powerful wrench, and the bolts had been well soaked. I'll give Kroil a try.

When you replace the blades buy new bolts and nuts. removing the old the threads seem to lock up and the nut is unusable. To get the old bolts nuts to release easier use a cold chisle to make a streach in the nut threads this is easyest to remove. You sure don't want a used bolt to let the blade loose under the bush hog experance I have had the blade spun approx. 1/8 mile after cutting a slice out of the the metal side of deck.
if the stump jumper is banged up cheaper to purchase a complete lower set up.

Since I killed the thread will make one more comment. The new blades cost money and using the old bolts worn and damaged by what ever method of removing.
This was my way of stating I't is not recomended to use old bolts for his application.so why save the worn bolt.
