If you go with the 5' you should be able to offset it enough to trim on one side if you have turnbuckle adjusters on the lower links.

I doubt you will get any real answers, as there are only a couple of 2500's on any of these forums. A big problem is that Yanmars are very light tractors. A 6' mower will probably weigh 1/2 your tractors weight.
What do you call light? With the FEL and me in the seat, my rig tips the scales at 4k#. (Yes I have had it on the scales.) It's a different model but sim in size power wise.

I think mower design and grass/pasture conditions have a big impact. Before getting the Yanmar I borrowed BIL Kubota which is a little larger than the Yanmar. His tractor has either a 5' or 6' JD mower and it struggles on my pasture. My tractor and mower combo cuts the same pasture without breathing hard.

I'd agree with earlier statement that 5HP/ft is a good guideline. One also need to take into consideration specific tractor and mower combo for balance considerations.

Wow, I was away for a couple of days and didn't see all of the great responses. Thanks to everyone who replied. I especially like the "light 6-footer" and "offset 5-footer" ideas. Once I make a rotary cutter purchase, I'll post my findings in this thread.

Thanks again,

Mica

Good evening fellas; I have a yanmar 2500 with a 5' brush hog or bush hog rotary cutter. I think one thing that I like about it being a couple inches inside the wheel is the fact that if the tires don't hit neither will the cutter. This is helpful in avoiding knoching bark off trees while cutting. One question though. Do yall use the pto in the first forward position (540 rpm I think) to cut?

BOTH pto levers must be pushed all the way forward for the rpms to be close to 540. I don't run mine in any other pto gear/range.

Yes, Always.

The consequences of spooling up an implement way above the 540 rpm design can be mechanically devastating. Not to mention personally dangerous.

Thanks Travis R & Mark 777 ; I'am a little confused Mark777 about your comment about both pto levers having to be in forward for 540 rpm's. My tractor is up at my place in Quitman,Miss. so I'll have to check this out on my next trip up next week. Just from memory the lever for the high or low gear speed is on the right side sitting on the tractor. The pto lever is on the left side. but I don't recall another lever being there. Thanks fellas and I'll get back to yall later.

Gary,

The other PTO lever is Behind the seat all the way to the left. I Always put Both PTO levers in neutral when i'm not using the PTO. I do this for safety purposes.
