Rotary Cutter Rotary cutter question

 / Rotary cutter question #11
Howse did use a unique clutch, in that it had a big (maybe 2 inch diameter) slotted nut on the gearbox side of the clutch and in that nut they had a set screw that had to be backed off before using a punch or chisel with hammer to adjust the clutch tension--Check and see--I am not sure if the have changed to the multibolt pattern that is adjusted from the front--We probably have the slip discs from old stock, if you need them?--Ken Sweet

I kept spares on hand, and never sheared one

The BushHog Squealer I have has a shear pin. When first shopping for a cutter, I wanted one with a slip clutch, but in a very uncharacteristic move (for me), I decided to go the cheaper route. I figured I would be changing shear pins often, but like you, Bird, I've never had one shear, despite hitting my fair share of potential disasters. Of course, my tractor is on the puny side of the recommended HP range. S'ppose that could have something to do with it.
