Rotary cutter, slip clutch or shear pin??

Considering buying a RC for residential use, it will not be used alot, maybe a few times a year for mostly brush grasses/weeds and 1/4 - 1/2 saplings.

Which is the preferred route, slip clutch or shear pin? pro's and cons?

Any input on the brush bull series?

I have been brush hogging both at home and commercially for over 35 years now with shear pin protected brush hogs and have had no problems. There would be absolutely no interest for me to pay the additional money or to do the additional required adjustments for a slip clutch brush hog. And I have tangled up some serious stuff in my brush hog blades over the years.

The slip clutch will stick over time, so the best method to maintain is to loosen the bolts, mark the plates on the slip clutch and engage the pto a few times. Make sure that your marks no longer line up (ensuring that it actually slipped). Retighten the bolts. 10 min. once a year and you've save your equipment!

I have owned both but the last 5 years I have had a slip clutch. When I hook it up in the spring, while I am greasing, sharpening blades, etc, I do exactly what you do to be sure it slips, tighten to spec, and go on my way. I "found" a stump last week I had forgotten about, and it did slip.

I think I would spend more time/year changing shear pins than I do with annual adjustment.
