Hi Everyone,
I just have a quick question, can I let my rotary Cutter outside or it always need to be Inside? Just bought a new one and want to make sure it will last :).

Thanks!

I can keep mine inside, and do. I would say more are kept outside. If I had to keep mine outside, I would tarp it and keep it sprayed with rust preventer.

I think that to look right, a bushhog needs that certain patina that only comes from a few years out in the weather. Best to have some cutting debris plastered on top of the deck too.

It'll look nicer if you keep it inside, but as you use it the debris bouncing around at 250kph under the deck will begin to pound out the steel and knock the paint off it anyway. Unless you have an abundance of storage space I wouldn't worry about it. I do bring mine in come winter, with all the other fair weather stuff.

My last one I owned three years before selling it. I bought it new and left it outside the whole time. When I sold it it looked about like when I bought it. If you have room keep it covered if not I wouldn't worry too much.

I keep my 60" cutter on a pallet, with two 6" X 6" wooden blocks at the front, so air can circulate.

I keep it covered with a COTTON canvas tarpaulin.

If you have an external frame (ribs) sweep all the debris and dirt off so deck will be dry most of the time. Debris holds moisture.

I have stored all 3 of the rotary cutters I've owned outside under a tree. Like has been said, keeping the dirt and clippings off the top keeps it dry and helps prevent metal cancer (also known as rust). Another thing I do is put down some of the rubber horse stall mats where I park it. That prevents moisture from coming up from the ground which starts rust on the underside. I use the 3/4 inch thick mats, they last forever. The biggest issue with my newest cutter is it came in with a clutch instead of shearpin so I need to make a cover for that to keep it dry.

I you want a cutter that you'll never need to store inside look at a Modern AG. The entire deck and even the frame work is galvanized.
