My wife has asked that I 'get rid of' a forsythia hedge that is about 7 feet tall, 5 feet wide and 20 feet long. I've attached a picture I just took, but being just a little dark out /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I'm not sure how much help it'll be.

Do you think I can mow this hedge down by backing into it with my Woods Brushbull 60?

I can't answer your question Mike but I did lighten up your picture for you.

Spence - Thanks for the picture improvement!
John - Thanks for the info. I know what I'll be doing in about an hour! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Or, you could use your FEL w/toothbar to "groom" the forsythia first and then create your mulch pile with the rotary cutter.

Have fun - safely! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Groom?

/w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif Guess it's too darn early in the morning... /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif Coffee hasn't taken the fog out of the head as yet..

Groom - use the FEL to smash the forsythia and the toothbar to pull it out. Then run over the mess with your rotary cutter. Backing into things sometimes has surprise results!! Hidden stumps and boulders.

Thanks, Terry! Guess I know what I'll be doing today!! Also, sorry to hear about your cat. Every now and then we hear a cat fight going on and I wonder if one of ours is involved. Hopefully, your vet will offer some good news, although with a broken back.../w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Mike,

I have the same project today but on a slightly smaller scale....the mess is only about 12 feet long. My two cents: don't you have to get the roots out too? My plan is to put a chain around the tangle of stems and pull it all up. It's been wet enough here that lots of the roots ought to come out (and lots of tire should tear up the lawn?). You can certainly bush hog the mess into small pieces...I will do that out in a far field where I can just leave the little pieces rather than rake them up from the lawn. This sounds like a straightforward project; but they all start that way....

Chas, I think I will try Terry's method of grooming the mess with the FEL and toothbar, then use the cutter. Once all that's done use the FEL/toothbar to dig the stumps out.
