If you do this sort of work professionally you will find that the investment will be worth it in time and fuel saved. Probably better adjust bid or hourly rate to compensate.

I have been doing these jobs for a few years with an indicate set up. I agree that it will save time getting to grade with machine control. Bidding against other contractors keeps pricing tight but the contractor with the best results is also noticed. I try to do the best job I can for each customer and in return the business has grown over the last few years. It helps that I like this type work and that enjoying what you do each day has become more important.

I've used the same package for awhile. The price has actually gone down quite a bit since I bought mine. New Topcon RL H4C Construction Laser Level DB Kit with Tripod and 16' Rod 1th | eBay

I planned to build a receiver mount for the CTL bucket and another for my box blade but still haven't gotten around to it.

I think the RL-H4C is a very good buy and a pretty good laser for most jobs. Lots of bang for the buck imo

A lot of the small jobs I work on are from Spanish land grants, and as the land has been passed down these properties have been divided into thin strips.
I may be working on a few acres that are very long and very narrow. One job was 60 feet wide and a little over 2400 feet length just under 3.5 acres. For this reason I stepped up to the RL200 2/s with a 3600ft diameter and 7 arc second accuracy.
