Mowing Rotary mower by Brown Manuf. ??

The offset rotary cutters I've seen are pretty big and heavy. That's good for laying the 2" stuff over for grinding it up but you may find the L4310 on the small/light side to really handle that much implement.

Have you given any thought to a high-speed disk mower? I had a 7-foot Vicon which would saw through 2" (max) stuff if I went slow. Of course this was really a grass mower which I shouldn't have used that way but it sure worked. It had a lift cylinder which would stand it up to do vertical hedges ! Kuhn makes one in the 5-6 foot range which would work on the L4310. One warning though - if your place is rocky don't even think about a disk mower. Cost to fix is fierce if you jam it up.

I looked at the disk cutters and they were quite expensive. I have a lot of rocks and wanted to be able to find a cutter that would work for sides of ditches as well as cut hay on a small scale, but am still looking.

wen: Of all the mowing machines I've had, the one which is has been useful the longest is a Sperry-New Holland (red) model 451 sicklebar. This unit is a very well thought out design, using a frictionless knife drive, all-mechanical lift, reliable breakaway - in short everything you'd want for ditches and small-scale haying. It has changed very little over the twenty+ years they've made it - good evidence that the design is right.

Wow! I just called a local NH dealer - current price of a new 7' model 451 is over $4k ! This is major motivation to find a good used one - most people who own an older one probably got it for 2k or less. Thanks for the info. Yes, that is the problem I continue to have is that the new attachments have become very expensive. I have a horse drawn sickle bar, but it is a little too rusty to fix. Nice design, though.

ok I found that woods does make an offset but it is too light to handle what you want, but also hardee williams makes a pretty good looking offset it comes in five and six foot models with dual wheels or a single wheel, with your choice of right or left offset. the 5 ft. weighs approx. 820lbs and the six ft. approx. 930lbs with a 90hp. gear box on either one, 7 gauge deck, skids are 3/8"+ 3" cutting height 2" to 12" stump jumper and slip clutch, round stump jumper,cat 1, .... I think their website is www. hardeewilliams.com or it may be www.hardee.com something like that... hope this helps and good luck... oh yeah list price on the 5' is 2,390 and the 6' list is 2,430 list on 6' with dual wheels is 2,700. hardee makes good durable equip. i sell alot of their cutters if that is the wrong web site you can call them at, 1-800-588-9263
