Rotary rake options????

I've also been told not to buy a used rotary unless you really know what to look for. Friend has been burned replacing cam tracks and followers on two used rakes now (His were claas).

All the models I've been told to be very careful of have exposed cam tracks.

Yes make sure the center section is still sealed. Kuhn has little plastic spacers between the arms. A friend of mine loaned his out years ago and the people bent an arm or 2. When they replaced it, we didn't notice they left the spacers/fillers out where they had to pull the bent arms out. This allowed dirt/dust in and ate away the cast track in 1 section. I just rebuilt the rake for him this winter, put $800.00 in parts in, we could have done it for less, but as long as it was apart we replaced everything.

The center on the Kuhn comes apart hard, no good way to pull it apart. Once apart the job was easy.

I have an older JF Stoll rotary rake I bought used this year and I love it! I had been using a 4 wheeled 3 pt. wheel rake before. Wow! What an improvement! The one I have is a single rotor trailed type, and the only thing that would make any nicer is if it had hydraulics to raise it over windrows, or like you said a 3 pt. version of one. I believe mine is 11'. I really like the way a rotary rake sweeps the hay and there is no roping of the hay. I also like being able to change the windrow width and height just by moving the curtain. As for brands I can't really say a whole lot, but the dealer I use and where I got my used sells both kuhn and claas and they seem to sell more of the claas, but I do know people who have the kuhns and seem to like them.

I like my Krone 46T. Very heavy built and has the tines mounted with the tine arm run through them so they don't stress the mounting bolt as much. With the tine arms that fold up you can really make it narrow for transport. I see the new ones have the extra wheel on the hitch.
