rotary tiller depth & weight

I have a 60" County Line from TSC. It has shoes on the ends that are adjustable (with some effort) and will determine your depth on your first pass. I keep mine set for the deepest depth though. The slower you can go, the deeper the tiller will dig at least as deep as your shoes are set. Multiple passes help also. I have worked mine garden up enough that I probably till 12" deep.

The thing I like about my tiller is that it has heavy duty blades. When I was looking at some other brands, they had very whimpy looking blades that look like they would snap on one good size rock.

I just got a message from TBN that states someone has complained about my last post:

Quote: A while back you asked the people here if you posted too much as a dealer.. On the "Tiller" weight question you never answered the OP all you did is try to sell,,, hmmmm..Quote:

I really don't know the issue this user has, If you guys want me to not post the weights of the products I sell, just let me know? Ken Sweet
What:confused: I am too on the look for a tiller and ken, you where more than helpful with me. I believe weight/design have alot to do with depth of tilling on the FIRST pass. After that anything will go deeper, for the OP's question.

Ken has very good 'tribal' knowledge, a valued information contributor in my opinion. Does not matter if he is an advertiser or not.

I till about 5+ acres each year with my KK 5 footer and allot of my tilling is in the "woods". As said, the weight keeps the tiller in the ground....but TOO MUCH weight may not allow the tiller to ride up over rocks and stumps....which to me is a good thing. So far, I have not broken anything on my KK.....and its got about 15 acres under its belt.

I use mine to incorporate lime and fertilizer as well as to break new ground....not to mention last years crops. Sometimes deep is good....other times I run pretty shallow. IMO the KK does not till very deep in its deepest setting...but depth has not been a major concern for me. I have sandy soils and am not growing veggies for the table. (mostly deer food plots)

As said...more passes allow the tiller to operate deeper.

OH....and as for Ken's advice....keep it coming Ken! You are pretty much spot-on in my opinion....and provide good advice for folks. I don't think you "sell" too hard. You simply provide some examples and prices. Lots of folks like to have some reference such as you provide.

Ken, I'm surprised that someone complained about your mentioning the items that you sell. The items are always the particular item that the link is about.....and I appreciate your link so I can see if it is what I need and IF I can afford it. Usually I cannot:mad: But, that's my take on your inputs.

Not a problem. No harm, no foul. Thanks for your support. Ken Sweet

Ken, I value your input.

As I said before, when I first saw your posts, I thought.........."Geez, advertisers selling wares in the forum.........that's just great".

But as I read thru the threads in here, I noticed that not only were you advertising what you sell, you were actually helping people on the forum. Even if it meant the loss of a sale for you, when you sent them elsewhere.

Whoever reported you was wrong in doing so, IMHO.

Thanks Don. All is well that ends well. Ken Sweet
