Tiller Rotary Tillers

   / Rotary Tillers #11
CCM has been in business since 1972. We bring advancing technology to our customers at prices lower than the older technology most of our competition is selling. Our tillers are commercial grade and are being sold at the homeowners lighter duty prices. Many of our tillers are used in the tree nursery industry where these operators take a small 30-45" tiller put it on a narrow row tractor with 45 PTO HP and run these tillers 200+ hours a year. Now most of the posters on TBN may run their tillers less than 6 hours a year but wouldn't you like to know that capacity is engineered in there for you? Will those lighter duty chain drive tillers stand up to 200+ hours of service a year?

CCM sells nothing but Gear Drive Tillers. We have 3 series of tillers designed to match your size and type of tractor and the tiller's intended uses. We thank TBN and our customers for their support.

HillbillyFarmer: You raised a good point of the hydrocarbons contaminating our 25'X40' garden. My wife and I generally use nontreated seeds and only natural fertilizers and pest management practices. I believe/hope that my gear lube loss occurs during my tiller "down times" as I have never seen gear lube weeping/dripping. I stopped tilling 2X/season once I discovered the hairline crack. I think we will have our garden soil tested at our local extension service (UMass/Amherst). I want to thank you as you have given me a very powerful argument with "she who must be obeyed/comptroller" justifying replacement of my old tiller . Jay

HA! Glad to be of service with your boss, J.
I probably worry about HCs more than most since I worked in the HC area of the chemical industry. There are some nasty things in heavy oils. . . and light oils.
I see more and more mechanics these days wearing gloves, which is a good thing, especially for the younger ones.

I have a half acre I cleared of heavy brush and 2 to 4 inch
saplings with a good mix of 4 to 6 inch small trees.
There are a lot of roots left under the surface.
How do you think your tiller would work on tilling this area about 2 to 4 inches deep?

Not MY tiller.

Have extra slip clutch parts on hand when you start. You'll need 'em.

Not being a tiller owner, take this with a grain of salt.
I wonder about using a tiller to rip into a root infested area. Seems like you would want to use a root rake, or a box blade with rippers before sending a tiller into an area that would shorten it's life span.
Just wondering out loud...

I bought one of the KKII gear drive tillers at TSC and have found it hard to beat. I was able to hammer them down a bit on the price due to a few dings it sustained in the shipping process. If they have any left this time of year I figure they would be receptive to a reasonable offer. The TSC I deal with will work with you on seasonable items, doesn't hurt to try.

David:

I killed one tiller already doing things with it that in hindsight I should not have attempted (Like tilling out roots without prior preparation of the soil.). I used to plow the area to be tilled with a single bottom plow before I actually tilled it. Bad things happened to my old tiller once I got lazy and broke new field sod with just the tiller :(. I will take much better care of my new tiller (CCM MR-160) since I upgraded tractors and attachments. Jay

I have a chain drive Howard that I bought 25 years ago. I have used it so much in a rototilling business that I have changed the tines 4 or 5 times. It's not going to win any beauty contests and if you're the kind of guy that waxes his tractor you might want to store this one in your neighbors yard. If a chain drive will outlast you what's the point of spending the extra money?
