We run shell rotella synthetic in all of our yanmars, they love the stuff !
All our cars with mobil 1 and Amzoil in our dodge ram diesel.

They get better mileage, oil is cheap compared to repairs.

Change it often too:D

You might even think about the John Deere Plus Fifty 0w40 synthetic oil. I use it in my diesel HPX Gator and it allows the engine to start faster and run smoother while it's cold. I normally use 15w40 Rotella or Plus Fifty during the summer.

5-40 Rotella in my Cummins, especially for the really cold weather. No dead pedal if you do not have time to warm it up. Have not put it in my B21 yet.

I had a JD 335 with the same 20HP Kaw motor, used 5W30 Mobil 1 year round. Ran great and didn't use a drop in the 4 years I owned it. Upgraded that to a 355 with the 2cyl yanmar Diesel; M1 meets the specs for this motor too; so both it and the Yanmar in my 2210 run 5W30 Mobil 1. Tractors start great in all weather and neither burns oil. Both tractors get new oil/filter in the spring and the fall.

Are you talking about the 5-30 M1? 5-30 M1 isn't diesel rated, is it?

I bought wal-mart 5w-40 syn. that was around $10 per 5 qts jug, not sure who makes their oil.

You're right, M1 5W30 does not meet "diesel" specs, but neither of my yanmar diesels call for it either. The 2210 manual says "API Classification SG or higher". The 355 manual says "API Classification CF or higher". Per their website, Mobil 1 5W30 is certified for API - SM, SL, SJ, EC, CF & CD.

I've been running Rotella 5-40 in my vehicles for a while but recently changed to amsoil. I gotta say it starts a lot easier and I get better fuel mileage. On the next change I'm going to start doing UOAs to see how long I can go...

Starts easier with the Amsoil than the 5x40 Rotella?? What weight is the amsoil? Does it crank faster or what?

Rotalla isn't necessarily a synthetic oil; Amsoil is by default. Any engine with 40 weight oil will start easier in the winter if it's synthetic-based, no matter what the brand.

If you're comparing Rotalla Syn vs Amsoil I don't think there would be much of a starting difference.
