I was picking oil up today for my 'spring' service on my Nh 7610s, and I usually get valvolene fleet 15/40 but stopped to read the rotella T display.. valv was rated at ci-4 Rotella was ci-4plus, and cj-4

Since rotella was only a couple dollars per gallon more.. I went with it.

Anyone see any downside to this?

Does it EXCEED the requirements of your engine? If so..dont matter which one you use.

Well, I know Chevron Delo 15W40 is manufactuered by Chevron, an American company. I think Valvolene is also solely an American company and I know Shell is Dutch. I try to buy American products when possible and especially when their products are as good or better and most importantly, priced competitively. Other then that, in a million years I bet you would not notice much if any difference in the performance of those 3 oils in your diesel.

American or Foreign, Delvac 1 by Mobil is the Best Synthetic for diesels. Just be sure your engine has been broken in with a Non-synthetic for about 500 hrs.

I'm not going to get into a who's oil is the best competition here, just what I know from experience. I have seen many, many used oil analysis done on vehicles that have run Rotella T oil over the years and it performs just fine. It's not the best but by no means anywhere close to the worse. If you ask me if Rotella T is good to use I would say yes.

Valvoline Fleet 15W/40. I really don't know alot about it. I will have to research it and see if I can find some virgin oil analysis and used oil analysis to see how it performs.

As far a what are the differences in CI-4/CI-4 Plus and CJ-4 oils. The main difference that took place in this change was that the new CJ-4 oil was designed to be used in engines that have particulate filters, and these are mainly found on trucks currently. What changed in the formulation was that alot of the anti-wear additives that were used in previous oils tend to plug up the particulate filters. These additives have had their levels greatly reduced and replaced by more expensive additives that will not plug up particluate filters. This is the reason the new CJ-4 oils are more expensive than the previous grade.

So, what should you use in your tractor. There is really no reason to use CJ-4 spec oil in it. The CI-4/CI-4 Plus spec oils is a perfectly suitable oil to use in tractors. Most diesel engines in tractors only spec something in the CD to CH range so even going with a CI-4/CI-4 Plus is a step up.

All you need is Wal-Mart SuperTech or TSC Traveller brand oil. Anything else and you are just wasting your money.

Commiemart oil (depending on which blender it is made by) tends actually be a good oil with rather good spec's. The spec's for the Traveller oil have never impressed me very much. Whatever you do don't use the Traveller oil in a 2007+ diesel powered auto/truck. They do not have any API licensed CJ-4 oil.

and you know this because....

1. your a super scientific petroleum engineer who lives, breathes and eats oil

2. you own stock in SuperTech and or Walmart

3. The label educated you to this "fact"

4. You are so into oil that you spend the time, money and energy having your oils tested and analyzed by labs that specialize in oil analysis.

5. You bought, your diesel is still spinning and that is it in a nutshell.
