I have wondered say if in an emergency all you had was olive oil or some cooking oil and you had to get out of the desert or the jungle etc., how well it would work in a car. I bet it would be ok for a while...

I imagine the temperature at which it burns would be an issue.. but i have no info on when eng oil scortches.. though I have ruined some corn oil in a deep fryer before!
I've been using Rotella T, and have been happy with it, but my fuel dealer, who is a Conoco Distributor, said I should take a long hard look at "Conoco Power D" 15W40, as most of the major trucking companies are switching over to it. More miles between oil changes.
"most of the major trucking companies are switching over to it"
Hmm, sounds like salesman talk to me. I sell alot to trucking fleets that use my gear oils and greases but use Rotella T engine oil due to price. I can't think of one person I know that uses Power D, come to think of it, I'm not sure if I have ever heard of it. Then again, Conoco isn't big around my parts.
I just checked Conoco's website and the Power D spec sheet they have online shows it only API rated to CI-4. If that's correct don't use it in a 2007+ vehicle diesel engine. Also their online spec sheet is very limited with info so it's difficult to make a comparison to Rotella. I'll have to see if I can find someone that has used it and done a UOA. That's the best way to judge a oil is by how it performs.
Well a quick search of the UOA archives and turned up nothing. I did find a VOA (virgin oil analysis) and it dosen't look to bad. One thing I did notice was that they have a very high level of Calcium at around 3340 PPM and 0 PPM of Moly. I would still like to see a UOA before I recomended it though.
