I an using Rotella T in my JD 2305. JD Plus 50 use goes for 200 hours between changes, any thoughts on how long using Rotella. Tractor sees light use.

Loggers use rotella in their equiptment for 200-400 hours. I dont think you will come close to that in your equiptment or be as hard on it as those machines are run.

Rotella T is excellent oil. I use it in my tractor, which sees about 70 or 80 hours a year. I change it once a year, but I wouldn't be scared to go further; that is just my regimen. With the hours that I put on mine, I would be more concerned about condensation than the oil wearing out. So, if I put a couple hundred hours a year on it, I would still change it once a year.
If Rotella is good for many, many thousands of miles in a tractor trailer, I would trust it for 200 hours in my tractor. To be safe, though, the first time you would use it to go that long, maybe get an oil analysis done. Or, contact Shell and see what their recommendation is.

aren't there different variations of rotella t, like t3 and t6? If I remember right, t6 is full synthetic, and t3 is syn blend. Wouldn't the version make some difference? Or did I pull that out of my arse?

No there's definetely differences between Rotella T3 T5 and T6.
I run 5W40 T6 for winter start ups and plan to run it by the hour meter intervals during the warranty. After that I might spring for an oil analysis and see how it is at a longer interval. In my cars I now run synthetic to 12-14-16000km and both are going to die of rust long before the engine is going to have an oil related problem.

I've been running Rotella T 5-40 for 4-5 years in my 2210. 632 hours, lots of high speed mowing in summer, light plowing in winters. No problems, no notable sludge on cap inside, etc... Very confident in this oil. I change it usually once per year after leaf pickup, about 85-95 houts per year. I believe it helps winter starts by allowing the engine to turn easier with less reisstance due to gummy thickened oil, and does a better job lubricating becasue of this.
I have cheaped out on the HST by using the off brand ("Mystic"? or something similar) hydro fluid, because it takes a LOT of fluid. But I m ake certain it meets the JD specifications, and I keep that changed ahead of schedule.

It's not really how hard you run your equipment, but how hard you are on your oil that should decide how often that you change it. Guys that start the machines and run them fairly hard for an extended period of time don't have much problem with the intervals on their oil. Warm engines seal better, causing less fuel and other contaminants into the oil. Also warm engines don't get condensation in them. Start and stop an engine a lot and it'll need more frequent changes.

On larger equipment, the oil capacities are huge. Gallons of oil are dumped in. The more oil, the more of the contaminants can be suspended for a longer period of time. Oil change time is down time.
Also on the longer intervals of the heavier equipment, in many cases, oil samples are taken weekly and when the oil is starting to show signs of being "used up" in the lab, it gets changed. A friend of the family has a very large construction company and this is how his shop manager does it.

Intervals on our tractors.....
For me personally, Case suggests 100 hours. I do it about every 50. It gives me a good chance to go over the tractor and look for any issues, and changing the oil every 50 hours sure isn't going to hurt anything. For the price of the oil, it's super cheap insurance. Especially if you're like me and run the tractor sporadically and it sits a fair bit of time. My vote....change it at or sooner than the factory suggested interval. Why not do it?
