Rotella-T, use conventional or synthetic?

Excellent reasoning, I agree with your comparison with an occasional use tractor with a car, and for that reason I wondered about the 200 hour intervals I inquired about...I don't use my Deere running hard for hours a day, every day, but I try to plan my use so it gets at least an hour or more of running time so the engine gets hot, with every time I take it out.

Appears I may have unrealistic expectations about synthetic oil, I have never used it in any car, truck, or tractor I have owned over 40 years of operation. From what I have read, it allows you to extend oil change intervals in certain cases, and I was wondering now that I have extended my change intervals from 50 hours to 100 hours, using a synthetic would stretch that period even more. Not that I mind changing the oil, compared to the headache of oil and filter changes on my Saturn L-300, my tractor is really easy.

An important point being overlooked is oil capacity. Big rigs often have an oil capacity of 8 or 9 GALLONS vs 8 or 9 quarts for the CUT. If you carried four times the amount of oil in the pan you could easily go four times as long between changes.

NOT TRUE!! Look at the engine size, the loads beig carried, and the cost of the engine. Also, EGR vs SCR, all kinds of factors come into play.

True but large multiple oil filters and very low engine RPM also are in play. The only ones I have any experience with redlined at 1600-1800 RPM and were governed to 1500-1600 RPM in top gears(where they likely spend the majority of thier time). I am definitely of the belief the large oil capacity of heavy trucks plays the big role in their extended drain intervals.

What gassers you running it in?? I have an 04 GMC 5.3L, was considering it, but some say no because of the 40W aspect of it.

Almost every boat owner around here runs a 15W40 diesel rated oil in them. 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 6.2L, 7.4L, 8.1L based GM gas engines and Ford 351 and 460 gas engines.

Only one guy I know runs Rotella. Rest of us run Dello 400 or Delvac.

I went with T6 just because of the temp extremes the tractor will see. I think it cost me about an extra $20 to do so, hardly a big deal when it comes to a $30k tractor.

Is the Delo 400 a synthetic?? Our Husky used to carry Delo. I will have to check next time I am there, to see if they still do. If it is on the shelf, I will try it.

Depends on what the user wants. Longer drains, low HTHS, end user want a real true synthetic, prices involded???

I have used both along with LC20 since the UOA show it is needed. I just wish Shelll put more data out on it.

No, its dyno oil.

I've used Delo 400 SAE 15W-40 Oil in all my F250 7.3L Diesel engines since the early 90s. It is readily available usually at discounted prices at most Costco Wholesale Stores and at Wallmart. Even though the winter temps get down to minus 27 degrees F where I live most of the year up at 8,000' in the Rockies I keep my F250 7.3L in my heated garage. I used to use it in my Kubota L39 but since sliding snow/ice sheared off my shop heater smokestack where I keep my L39 I've been using Fully Synthetic Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 Engine Oil for the last year and a half without a problem.
