Rough cut 10 acres moderately sloped

I would go with a tractor and bushhog route. With the acreage you mentioned, you will find pleanty of other uses for a tractor.

With a ~30HP compact and a 5' hog, you can mow about 2 acres per hour if there are not a lot of obsticals or severly overgrown. So you are looking at about 5 hours of your time.

If you cant justify/afford a trator, I would hire it out. Depending on your location (might help us answer your questions better if you fill out your profile) you may be able to get someone in the area with a large mower or batwing to do it for ~300 bucks. If you only do it a few times per year, it would take a while to payoff buying equipment and doing it your self.

But again, if you have other uses for a tractor, I'd go that route.

A 12HP gas engine on a 60 inch deck is not equivalent to a 30 HP tractor powering a 60" rotary cutter. Don't waste your money on a pull behind, go PTO.

You would be surprised. My pull behind rough cuts will hack through 1 1/2" trees.
