Mowing Rough Cut Mower Problem

I finally settled on 13 X 6.50 - 6 solid rubber tires mounted on wheels with a 7.25 inch long hub which comes fitted with tapered roller bearing cups

From the picture I would guess that the wheels intended application is the front wheels on an ZTR. They look identical to the wheels on a Toro ZTR I owned. Toro and Exmark have common ownership.

WOW, thanks for the pictures and great discription.
Now if we could just get the rear fixed wheels converted into some type of caster wheel we would elminate the tight turn problem. In looking at this problem I really do not see enough clearance between the front tractor wheels and the deck to make it work.

On my 1845 rough cut mower the deck will actually scrub the front wheels under certain conditions so there is definitely no space for casters. But then I don't have any lawn where the tight turn problem matters. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif My rear wheel conversion to phenolic wheels now has several hundred hours on it and is holding up just fine (knock on wood).

For me PT's weakest link has been the wimpy tires, on both the tractor and attachments. Now if I can just find a reasonable way harden those darned tractor tires I'll be a happy camper. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Come up with a full suspension and you will be all set... maybe not. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Have you considered getting them foam-filled? I've just loaded my tires and put Hydro-Seal in them...

I started thinking about that way back when I got my first flat, then dropped it when there was a discussion in a thread here about the foam adding weight and overstressing the wheelmotor bearings. I seem to recall Terry discouraging foam too. It didn't occur to me before but that might not be a problem with my 1845. I'm running the (then) optional single wheels, not the standard equipment duallies. If the bearings will stand the duallies they oughta stand loaded singles. Hmmm....

If I had of known, that you wanted these kind of tires, I would have given you the company. j-thomas.com page 202

I don't know what you paid for yours, but the ones on my Dixie Chopper were around $85.

Right - Amsoil Racing Grease. So far I've been pleased with everything Amsoil -- except the cost. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The last thing I want to do is start a flaming war here, so please read this in the spirit I intended.

I have yet to become a convert to Amsoil's proselytizing ways and their over-inflated prices structured to support their pyramid. Me thinks it's more than coincidence that you don't find Amsoil lubes used to any significant extent in any of the club or professional roadracing or Nascar teams.

As for using synthetic lubes, I vote a resounding YES--in my PT, our race car, our daily driver; even my weedwhacker gets synthetic 2-stroke oil.

IMHO, one of the best synthetic greases is Loctite Viperlube made by Loctite/Henckel, {HERE}. Its performance properties are better than Amsoil's and I believe it is more economical, too. Industrial Supplies & Equipment carries it. Last time I bought a case, it was sub-$6/cartridge.

We also use Loctite Extreme Pressure grease (non-synthetic) in applications which call for an NLGI #1 composition. {HERE}. It's also reasonably priced.

BTW, I do hope that FOURTEEN has gone to bed by now, and that he will overlook this post tomorrow... not bloody likely, but we live close enough to one another so we can settle this over some iced tea.
